Thumbs up

I'm in California, so I'm sure the answer to this question varies state by state, but is it illegal not to have a 3rd brake light? I'm considering getting either the street scene or the CDC spoilers but the CDC blocks the 3rd light. I'd have to pay even more if I had to install the 3rd brake light in the back window, so if the 3rd brakelight is mandatory in CA, I'd probably go with the SS spoiler.

Hmm, seems like this question may be moot, since I just figured out the CDC one is cheaper even if you add the optional 3rd brakelight for $50. Looks like I may be going CDC. But I'd still like to know if the 3rd brakelight is mandatory on cars.

I heard it was a federal law on all cars built after a certain date.

Yes it's mandatory. CA sucks for modifying cars, there are way to many laws prohibiting so much. 3rd brake light is understandable though.

I would just put in the third brake light in the window. Call CDC and see how hard it would be to DIY.

The law in California states that if your car was manufactured with a 3rd brakelight you must have one! I called the CHP before I bought the CDC ducktail and I went with it anyway.

now that I know the CDC is cheaper than the SS, even with the 3rd option, I'm going to get the CDC. Unless I have to drill into the car which I don't want to do.
