Search the net under suto clear guard, x pel or 3m paint protection. There are lots of companies making the product and lots of installers. Do it yourself installation is NOT recommended.

B) Got the X-Pel hood, front bumper, headlights & fog lights ($715) done this past Saturday on the wife’s GT. We elected to not have the door handle pods done.

I can’t show any photos because it’s clear and doesn’t really show anything. Only thing I was able to get was an angle shot which shows the small reveal not worth posting. Photos on X-Pel’s web sight in post above give a better idea of what it looks like.

They did a great job in just a few hours. I really like the "non" look, it's invisible on the bumper and lights; only a small reveal line across the hood which disappears at 3-4 feet. There is nothing you can see on the bumper or lights. Going back in 2 weeks to have the side rocker and wheel panel done ($240).

Had it done by:
Modern Image
8656 Production Ave
San Diego CA
858-583-4432

Gotta tell ya, they had just finished a custome flamed black 50 Merc that get's shown; weekend light drives and not a trailer queen. It also was not noticeable on the black 3-4 feet away. Same for a grey V-10, blown Dodge Ram they were completing. However, they also had a Sonic blue color Nissan Z; it did show a more of a slight hood reveal line at up to about 5 feet away.

You have to realize though, the reveal lines are there only if you're looking for them and not really noticeable. Not cheap but better than a lot of nicks and dings which would need to be painted every couple of years at about $2000 a pop

Raven/Woody - thanks for the info.......Woody are they installing the vinyl sheeting that goes on with light soapy water - and can be easily removed? For my sportbike there is company called "Tankslappers" that sells precut clear vinyl to protect the tank against knees, etc....that is what I'm really looking for - just a sheet that I can cut/apply myself. Only going to cover the lower rocker panel area - from the wider wheels.

thx - brad

B) I think they used a water and alcohol solution, believe at 3-1 ratio. Soap will film underneath. Let it set 48 hours to dry before running through the car wash. They sell the rocker panel kit or you can buy in bulk

Woody Im guessing you have this installed on your Mustang right? Thank you so much for thi info, I'm wanting something like this myself. I have been watching the Stongard sight , they were the only ones I knew that made a 3M clear film protection, but they dont have it for our 05 yet that I can see. And they dont tell me much from my Emails either when they will have it. Can this film be washed and waxed like the rest of the car? I didnt see that info anywhere on the X-PEL website. One more question, doe sthis stuff go one with an adhesive, or is this like auto window film, alchohal and water ? Reason I ask is when it ever does finally looks bad and need to come off, will it come off with out leaving anything on the paint?

B) Wash, Clay or wax and treat it as any paint EXCEPT DON’T use a ROTATING BUFFER WHEEL, orbital is OK. The heat potential from a buffing wheel can quickly damage the film.
B) Goes on like window film but a little harder to work. That’s why I had the pro's do it. Basically, I don't have the patience. Also when done profesionally teh shop provides a 3 year warranty to "fix" if any section starts to peel or seperate AND X-Pel has a couple hundred dollar payment if a headlight, fog light or parking lens breaks from road debris.
B) Yes, in 5-7 years you can remove it and it won't leave any marks on the paint. Only think I would be leery of is the torch red pigments. They have a tendency to fade more over time unless taken really good care of; will be original color under the film which protects from UV.
