2005 Mustang GT Fog Lamp Relocation
2005 Mustang GT Fog Lamp Relocation
Has anyone found a fog lamp that will fit in the stock lower grille sides yet? If so please provide info.
I want to relocate the GT fog lamps that are in the front grille down to the lower grille. Fog lamps should be as close to the pavement as possible for effective use anyway.
I want to relocate the fog lamps on the GT to provide better air flow to the WMS ram air setup that I'm using.
Thanks for the input.

Just curious, it seems the ram air comes in above the fog light positioning so I am wondering how you figure this will help?
As far as repositioning to the lower grill the only ones I have seen are done with new front bumpers with a bigger lower grill. Good luck with that though. Post pics of whatever you come up with.

Since the WMS ram air hood is sealed to the inside of the hood when it is closed this mod will help to create a more positive air flow pressure in that area when the car is moving.
Now back to the original post............any fog lamps available that will fit into the stock lower grille sides?
Thanks for your help

I totally agree. In my opinion, and I know I'm a very small minority here, I dislike the GT fog lamps. I know Ford put them next to the headlamps and made them HUGE to pay tribute to the '69 front end with quad lamps. I believe these set the world record for size on a fog lamp! Did Ford realize that "old schoolers" like myself assume that an oncoming GT with fog lamps on look like high-beams? Fog lamps should be low, not level with the headlamps.... Well, at least the GT500's fog lamps are in the "correct" position.... as well as my '03 Cobra....

The only thing I'm aware of is using a Roush, Steeda, Cervini, or other aftermarket fascia that uses fog lights as part of the kit.
Also the Ronale and BBR Eleanor kits relocate the OE fogs down in their lower air intake, but you've gotta like that look to get this.

Back before the forums crashed (we lost all the pics) someone had put a set of rectangular foglights in the lower grille. Can't remember if they were in the open center section or the outside honeycomb sections because they wanted the look of a '67 instead of a '65/'66.
I think you're best bet would be to take some measurements of where you want to put them and then buy some aftermarket lights. I honestly don't see anyway to relocate the stock fogs anywhere down there and buying a whole new fascia seems a little expensive just to get new fog lights.
On a side note, if/when you do this this, the driver's side wiring harness has enough slack to run it down to the lower grille. However, the passenger side is going to need an extension or a splice to make it longer.
On another side note, your purpose for moving the foglights is another great reason for the aftermarket to come out with a GT grille that doesn't have foglights at all. (you guys knew I'd have to throw that in.
) Click on the links in my sig if your interested.

You can always go for the small round ones with the optical lens ... won't fill the hole, but will get your lights down low.
My 02 on light position. Having the fog lights higher is not all bad. For one thing, the light beam is distributed more evenly, also making the beam pattern less sensitive to vehicle movement (mounted down low the beam pattern will lift off the road as the car reacts to bumps). Being high, they are aimed downward killing the reflectivity when you are in dense fog. Just because its called a fog lamp does not mean that is all its good for. They are an excellent supplement to the low beam (w/o the fog) or high beam (requires wiring mod's). I drive with my so-called fogs on all the time (day or night). I have another car with powerful fog lights down low in the front apron and I don't see any significant effectiveness between the two positions.

I am intrested in this mod also. I have seen it done on the V6 before, but not a GT yet. Here is a link to a pic of a V6 with fogs in the lower grill. (Check out post #209)

Oh, yeah! The engine looks beautiful. Does the cover rub on the stut brace?

Went to the link and asked where he got the fogs.
Thanks a lot.
No the STB does not rub the plenum.........took some bend'in though. Improves the handling, the front end doesnt twist any more. Feels way more solid.

Jason, I did some photoshops of what I thought the GT/CS should look like. One of them had rectagular fogs where the outside black inserts are. If I was on my home computer, I would repost (still in the process of moving to VA)
You might want to PM him too, just incase he doesn't check that thread.
