I'm modding my '05 to look more like my '68.

So far I've added chrome molding on the tailights, 68 GT side emblems, louvers, and I'm working on the rear emblem.

So my question is, do you think I should put the FORD letters Red or leave them Black?

I'd leave them black! The car is looking nice BTW.

If you go Red, would'nt you want to go Red with the side badges aswell?

I'm not sure about the colors, but how bout you get some GT centercaps for your wheels that match that emblem on the trunk

Well, I'm holding out for some 68-69 styled steel wheels like on my 68. They don't make any large enough yet to fit over the brakes. I'm hoping that someone can figure out something close to that look eventually. We are still really early in the 2005+ mod arena, however eventually someone will make something close. I'll buy it and mod it if necessary. The 68 center caps actually are really close to fitting on my current rims, but wouldn't look to good. But I'm still searching for the right look.

Fleasome I am loving what your doing there, my brother had a new 68GT same color, legend lime, when I was a kid. I have always loved the 68 GT, your cars looking great.

I myself want more 68 Shelby parts on mine not to look exactly like a 68 Shelby just some of the parts I like, like a duct tail spoiler and side scoops.

Im glad to see people appreciate the heritage Ford gave us back with our 05, in my mind the 68 was the cream of the Mustang years, 67,68,69 just dont get much beter than that!! I still want to buy a 68 and refurb it so I can park it next to my 05, that would be my dream come true to have both cars!!

I don't have an opinion about the color of the cap but if your going for a comparable look to the 68 I would put the C stripe on the 05.

Fleasome......RED, definately. Can you tell me where you got (or how you did up) the retro "GT" letters on the rear deck emblem. It looks GREAT, would love to do it to mine so it goes along with my "GTA" side badging.

Thanks brother, let me know.

Mark.

First, I have not found a C-Stripe that looks really correct but am looking. They make a C-Stripe that is basically upside down from the original. The top line is shorter than the bottom as appossed to in 1968. I really want that, but because FORD placed the door handles where they did, and enlarged the wheel area for the bigger wheels, a C-Stripe may be difficult. I'll probably have to have them painted on. Still looking at that.

How I Made the Rear Emblem Retro 68.

1) Purchased another emblem off of Ebay for around $25.
2) Taped off the center area and sanded, primed, blacked out, and clearcoated the center.
3) Back to Ebay, purchased a red 1968 Emblem for a pop-open gas tank.
4) Placed the 68 emblem and found center of the blacked out emblem.
5) GT tag has 3 little "nubs". I marked them on the blacked out emblem.
6) Found an appropriate width drill bit that wasn't too big, and would make the GT "nubs" a tight forced fit. Drilled the three holes.
7) Put a little bit of plastic/pvc glue in the three holes, pressed the GT emblem in place, then let it dry.

I still havn't installed it on the car. In some other threads I had asked if the 05 rear emblem was bolted on or just glued. I have been told by several people that it is only only with double sided tape. However my newly modded one has two "nubs" on the back with fasteners. Yesterday, before the big Midwest Mustang Show here locally, I got a flashlight out and looked at the inside of my trunk, and could just barely see that it is indeed attached with with the two, "nubs". Only problem is there is no way to get to it. So I'm planning on buying the 2005 Mustang DVD off my favorite, Ebay and see if there is a special tool for getting in between the two pieces of metal that makes the trunk.

The emblem on the trunk is not actually "attached" by those nubs, just aligned with them. The emblem you modified, did it have the double sided backing on it? If so, you just have to basically "peel" the original emblem off, fiddle with stuff to get the sticky stuff off the trunk (this could take a long time to get absolutely clean), and just push the new emblem on in its place.

I can't wait to see it finished
