08 GT Front Fascia Conv with HID question

I am looking to do the GT500 front fascia conversion. But, my GT is optioned with HIDs. Can I still do this conversion? What would need to be changed. added or removed to make this swap work? Thanks.

I think all you would need is GT500 HID headlight housings (well of course the rest of the front conversion parts too) and it would work. All you are doing is changing from a GT housing to a GT500 housing. The actual HID light is the same. Probably quite a bit more expensive though.

I checked with KC and he said I would need to buy the entire GT500 HID assembly as they will not sell just the housing. Which is a good 1500 bones. My front end swap just got a whole lot more expensive...... I wonder if I could seperate the plastics and remate them... or find a set of bezels at a junk yard....

The ballasts should be mounted to your current headlight assemblies. Search online and ebay and you can find most OEM to aftermarket HID adapters for the bulbs. You could then use the standard GT500 housings with the aftermarket bulbs. All other wiring would be OEM. The adapters and bixenon bulbs should be around $75. You will have to remove your ballasts from the OEM housing and hopefully they are removable from them.

Can anyone confirm if this is 100% possible? What would be the pros ans cons of doing it this way? Would the projected light be any worse or better then the OEM GT500 HID setup? I know less then jack s**t about HID, just that my car has them, so please forgive my ignorance. Thanks.

I wouldn't go that way. The stock GT500 headlight housings don't have any shields in front of the bulbs the way the earlier year standard lighting GT/V6 housings did (those models are now without them too I believe from '07 up)

Without any shielding in front of the bulb capsule, the glare is going to be pretty awful for opposing traffic.

I had HIDs (which I really liked) in my '05 headlights (w/ the shields) but I took them out when I made the swap to the GT500 parts for that reason.

I live in a small west Texas town, of roughly 4000 people and 50+ miles to any big town. This car is more of a project then a dailer driver. It gets driven abount once every 2 weeks. I appreciate your suggestion, but this would not be a concern for me. By the "shields" are you refering to that peice of plastic that says ford on it in front of the headlight? If so, mine has that in its current config.

Torch is referring to a black piece that was in front of the bulb on the 05 and 06 models. I have an 06 and forgot Ford removed these due to the standard Sylvania bulbs already having a coating on the tip. I did find a retro kit that fit most aftermarket bulbs. If I can find the link I'll post it.

Edit: I can't find the retrokits but here's a site that talks about them.

I went out and did some looking. It seems the entire hid system is part of the headlight assembly on my car. This would make perfect sence as to why I would have to buy the new whole assembly on the GT500 as it is all 1 peice. I do not know if you can put aftermarket bulbs in our oem hids, so maybe it would be best to just get the regular headlights on the GT500 and get an aftermarket hid kit. The parts would be much less expensive. Anyone wanna buy oem GT hids? :P plug and play! Anyhow, let me know your thoughts.
