06 mustang wheel offset

I'm looking for new wheels for my 06 stang GT. Can someone give me the quick 101 on wheel offset? What is recommended for the 06 Stang?

Your gonna want to stay around the 45mm range for 10" wheels, for 9" around 36mm, but you should be able to go as low 24mm without having them stick out of the fender.

Thanks! Does the bigger the offeset number (ie 45 vs 36) mean they stick out farther? In other words, the bigger the offset the farther they stick out or the closer to the center of the body they are?
