Wow... and to think that Simon was one of my favorite hockey players.
I read this really cool SI article on him years ago, and followed his stats for a while. He actually did pretty good offensively one year with the Caps.
but yeah, I just lost all respect for him. Sad stuff.

I ref youth hockey games here in Chicago, and I had a game (17-18 year olds) where that had happend. Gave the kid a Match Penalty wrote his butt up and the league tossed him. He wasnt allowed to even be able to go in a rink for a year.
To see it happen in a youth age isn't that all surprising to me cuz I have seen everything, but to see THAT kind of cheap shot in the NHL does. The NHL players have to realise that they are role models for younger players, and if the kids see that crap they will take that garbage to their own league thinking its "cool" to do cuz the pros do it. It makes my job harder!
I think the NHL did the right thing to suspend him for the season.

as an Islanders fan it was disturbing to see Simons hit, the suspension is correct and justified. He has done this before(I think when he was with the Caps he hit either an Isles or Rangers player and started a big brawl). He is a free agent after this season and I wouldn't resign him especially if this causes the Isles to miss the playoffs.
