will the gt500 be a limited edition?is this
New cars are never a good investment. You'd be better off buying a car that is already collectible.
One of the statements Ford made was something like "we'll build as many as the public wants."

That's a friggin' relief.... I was lookin' at the production limit of 7500 thinkin' there's no way in heck that I'd ever be able to get one, simply because the rich and famous always seem to wind up with them first..... and the dealers charge double for the remainders.
I was thinkin' that they'd be stupid to limit production as long as they can sell them... seein' as most car companies are in the red these days.... I sure hope this isn't just another teaser rumor
Consider this the same as any other SVT Cobra production car. Rest assured, everyone that wants one will get one, and by the second year, you'll be able to get one at below sticker.
Use the 2003/4 Cobras as a guide. At first, there will be a huge feeding frenzy, and after the initial demand dies down, you'll see them on dealer lots just like all the other fords.
The only thing that will throw the fly in the ointment is I've been reading a number of GM people are also wanting to switch camps, so at first, not only will you have all the Ford faithful who want this car, but a good amount of Camaro/Firebird converts too.
Only time will tell, but if you shop wisely, you won't have to pay over sticker for the car.

There has been so much posted the last 3 days, I have no idea where I saw that. I have seen both 7500 and "as many as you want." We'll see.

Present and accounted for!
Seriously though, since this is not technically a limited edition vehicle, after the first year they should be easier to find for decent prices. I'm thinking I'm going to wait that long for mine. I'm sure they'll be marked up significantly at first, but I don't think the market is going to support huge markups for a long period of time.
I can't wait that long. I haven't had a muscle car since I sold my '93 Mustang GT 9 years ago. I have been jonesing for a fix since then. I can finally afford it. I'm buying early.

I plan to get a new Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra Mustang by SVT, but will not pay 1 penny over MSRP and will attempt to get it at X-Plan, even if I have to wait a long time.
Recent Examples: Ford Thunderbird insanity. People buy them way over MSRP. Now you see them way under MSRP (at least in my paper)
Same thing for the Mach 1 and the last Cobra, as well as the GTO and RX-8 early on. It's just a matter of time. Sooner or later demand will die down. It always does.

agreed, i honestly don't think this car or any before it will ever be as sought after as the originals are that era has passed, at least for ford and most other domestics.
I disagree. While these cars may never be the old cars, it will always be technically a better example of a perfected Mustang and will eventually be a time capsule.
The value isn't always monitary to me. After time, cars disappear, one by one. The remaining ones bring back memories that everyone who was involved in want a piece of. We will all look back on this car one day.

There will be collectible cars from this era. I definitely think the GT500 will be one of them. But, by the time these cars have become old enough to raise in value, your money would have been better served elsewhere such as mutual funds, realestate and, maybe someday, the stock market.
I plan to keep mine that long, but, not as a financial investment, as an emotional investment. It'll be one of those "My Dad bought this new when I was 5 and then gave it to me when he got too old to drive it."

The only problem I see is that they made 15K 03 Cobras. There will be far less Shelbys made. Demand will outstrip supply.
If I'm wrong, then I will do without.
There are other fun ways to spend 40K

When the Mach 1 came out in the Fall of 02, they were selling for thousands over MSRP. They only built 7182 2004 Mach 1s and they were selling for 6500 under MSRP only 6 months into the production run. Granted, that was the second year, but that's my point. Eventually supply will meet demand and prices will eventually drop.
If I'm wrong, then I will do without.

I'll put my money on Ford selling as many as they can, as fast as they can.

i dunno how accurate this is, but another member stated awhile back their were like 6800 03 cobras made and 2800 04, that shows the drop from the frenzy, also most cobras seen are 03s
<!--QuoteBegin-mr-mstng@March 24, 2005, 8:31 PM
Price point will be where the old Cobra was Mid 30s. Volume has not been finalised, but 5K-7.5K is what we heard. The 03 Cobra production was ~ 13K I believe.

i think i need to check the #s for those cobras, cuz i dont remember.......
The production numbers are in the timeline.
There were about 13,500 Cobras in '03. The concept had already been shown when the '04s were made. A lot of people (including myself) decided to wait. Glad I did.
There were a few around at the end of '03, but, not a boatload. This Shelby will be hotter than the terminator. A lot of new buyers will be drawn to this one. If only 7500, you won't see bargains on these for quite a while. Maybe not at all during the first 2 years.
With that said, a couple of the articles quote Ford as saying "we'll build as many of them as people want" (paraphrased).
