Had a meeting today with an SVT dealer who is a client of mine. We got to talking about the new Cobra & he said he doesn't know how many he will be receiving. I asked if he had a waiting list for the car. He said yes & I told him to put me on his list.

We talked about IRS & the solid axle. He didn't have any additional insight into when an IRS would be available.

When I got back to my office I contacted two other SVT dealers who are also clients. When I asked if they had a waiting list for the Cobra I got the same answer, yes.

So word to the wise. If your hoping to get one of the early Cobra's I would suggest contacting your local SVT dealer now & get hooked up.

Good luck

I know of course there is no price yet for the next cobra. When contacting a svt dealer to get put on a waiting list, do you work out any price guarantee at that time. Or do you just try to get them to guarantee price not over MSRP. Let me know so when I contact the svt dealer, I don't look like a total bafoon. Thanks

Hi Matthew

The three dealers I spoke to were only taking names at this point in time. Once they get the OK to order they will go down the list to see who is still interested. At that point I think most deals will be made.

If you can find a dealer that will give you a deal at "X" dollars over "dealer invoice" I would try to get it in writing & give them a small refundable deposit. I would tend to think if you can do it for 2-3K over dealer invoice you will be doing OK.

If you have any special pricing plans check with the dealer to see if they will except them.

The car is going to be hot & hopefully the consumer won't be jammed. But after seeing what is going on with the GT, it may be tough to even get the car for MSRP.

Let me know if I can further assist you.

Isn't there some kind of signature rule?

Getting on a dealer list is guarantee for the dealer to charge MSRP or more. 1999 and 2001 is a vivid reminder of of that.

Unfortunately it is the old supply & demand deal. Even at MSRP if a customer is getting the car they really want then it is not an issue.

My local dealer won't take orders/deposits yet. He has me on his "mental list." He says they will be MSRP. I beg to differ with him. Don't just accept MSRP and never accept over sticker. Offer lower and negotiate up. If they won't budge, pay sticker if you want. But, I REPEAT, do not pay over sticker.

I hate the dealers out here, I've contacted several about the SVT and have been told by each that "there are no plans as of yet to make the SVT mustang and it probably wont be made" and trying to convince them otherwise is like trying to get a hippy to part with his weed. Its as if they dont want your money, heck I still occassionally get told that they dont make the GT in a manual or that it comes as a 6 speed, even though I pull up in a 5 speed manual GT. Anyone out there with any pull in Ford to get some training for these morons out here.

SVT powerlease customers, or the holder of the powewr lease voucher will have first right to order a 2007 model Cobra. After that the order bank will be opened up to franchise SVT dealers.
