The fun is worth the extra pennies. I'll just skip breakfast for a while.

I love it when people freak out over gas prices.

Let's do a hypothetical with fake numbers to illustrate a point.

Let's say gas is $2.00 a gallon today. Tommorow it's $3.00 a gallon.

The average fillup is probably about 12 gallons in a 15 gallon tank. Is $12 a week going to stop you from driving what you want?
Yes it is. Tony one ot these days you too will live on a fixed income.

Kinda like when Jack Daniels went from 86 to 80 proof.

Yeah, that was some serious BS.
In Tennessee you can still buy 90 proof Jack Daniels, and its darn smooth.

We have 93 octane here and its 2.14 a gallon, it's only going to get more expensive as the summer approaches.

Yep, 90 proof is still available up where I live, too.

87-$1.95
89- $2.05
93- $2.15

And no, it will not affect my decision what-so-ever.

Remember the 03-04 Cobras also had a $1000 gas guzzler tax added and were EPA'd at 16 in the city, if I remember correctly.
2003 Cobras were rated 16/22 and had the gas guzzler tax. 2004 Cobras were rated at 17/24 and did not have the gas guzzler tax (but Ford increased the price enough so that the price was still higher in 2004).

I wish that people who freak out about gas prices would stop to consider that in reality gas prices are AVERAGE. In terms of absolute dollars, yes, we pay more now, but since a dollar is worth less now than in the past, we actually pay just about the same as we always have. The peak was 1980, when we paid $2.94/gallon (in today's dollars). Since 1985 gas prices have remained pretty constant.

The way I look at it, if gas prices went up 50% instantly, I would be looking at about $90/month more. If that is the cost of having 500 horsepower, so be it. It is chump change compared to the cost of the car itself...

Thanks for the clarification on the Cobra fuel specs.

I agree gas is still a bargin in the U.S. The problem is the speed at which it jumps in price and the large amounts of fuel we use here. I travel 40+ miles round trip to work each day, since I can't afford to live closer. I know it isn't a long distance, but it adds up and I feel the additional cost at the pump.

Another problem, is the increased cost of raw materials made from petrolium products, and the increased cost of manufacturers to get them to market. We'll soon begin to see this indirect impact in increased prices for all goods and services, and even car prices.

Overhere we pay Euro 1.25 = $1.68 a liter. For a gallon that would be $6.35. That is for 95 octane. 98 octane is a bit more. We are getting used to it and I don't care anymore.

Filling up my daily driver Explorer sets me back Euro 90 = $121 and that is every week. The Stangs only see summer driving. I can't wait for spring anymore.

Sixtysix: $3.00 a gallon times 12 is $36 and not $12.
Does anybody know if the octane ratings in the U.S. are the same
as the ones in Europe?

Adrenal,

I read in Hot Rod years ago that they octane rating system is different between Europe and north america. Their 98 octane is equivalent to our 93. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for the info. I figured that was probably the case.

I honestly don't even look at the price of gas when I fill up. Whats the point anyway? I need the car to move in order to get me from point A to point B. Granted the prices stink but what am I to do? There is no other option, so I just fill up, mash the peddal to floor , and enjoy the ride.

NO, (although you are right about H2O being overpriced) A true sin is referring to J.Daniels as Bourbon. Every good Kentuckian knows that Bourbon must be produced in the Bluegrass State.

Around here its about $1.93 for 87 otctane, and about $2.13 for premium.
However if you want 100 octane your gonna pay about $4.00 a gallon.
