supercharged cobra and gas prices
Hey guys,
Just stopped by the gas pumps to get gas. $ 2.36 for premium. As you all know the supercharged mustangs suggest premium gas. Will these rising gas prices change anyones mind on getting the new cobra. I having second thoughts and maybe just settle on the GT.If the new cobra comes with a larger engine , that means even more at the pumps. Share your thoughts and tell me that I shouldn't worry about the gas prices so I don't talk myself out of getting the cobra.

I guess if you can afford the Cobra then you can probably afford the gas for it too

I love it when people freak out over gas prices.
Let's do a hypothetical with fake numbers to illustrate a point.
Let's say gas is $2.00 a gallon today. Tommorow it's $3.00 a gallon.
The average fillup is probably about 12 gallons in a 15 gallon tank. Is $12 a week going to stop you from driving what you want?

Overhere we pay Euro 1.25 = $1.68 a liter. For a gallon that would be $6.35.
That is for 95 octane. 98 octane is a bit more. We are getting used to it and I don't care anymore.
Filling up my daily driver Explorer sets me back Euro 90 = $121 and that is every week. The Stangs only see summer driving. I can't wait for spring anymore.
Sixtysix: $3.00 a gallon times 12 is $36 and not $12.

I think he meant $12 MORE per week. Luckily we don't have the insane gas prices the euros have, diesel cars are very rare here.
Not sure what the premium was running. In California they ninja swapped 92 to 91 octane which is our premium now. Was funny, no notice just new shiney stickers that said 91 instead of 92 one day out of the blue.
I don't really mind the fuel cost increase, what bothers me is the BS we are fed in California about the gas companies HAVING to increase prices to cover the cost of the "summer blend". I'd be much happier to pay 3 bucks a gallon if they said "we know you will pay more so we are just going to gouge you, especially in summer ok?" Instead of the BS .
Every gas station is selling, to some extent, gasoline mixed with alcohol now. That used to be reserved for the bottom of the barrel Arco type gas stations atleast in california.
I don't drive enough for gas prices to really hurt me, I just hate being lied to and cheated. Give me REAL gas for $5.00, thats fine.
Another thing that blows about gas in the U.S. we don't get some import performance cars because we don't have access to better/higher octane gasoline.

BTW--$2.29 per gallon for major brand 87 octane and $2.59 for 91 here in NorCal.
Remember the 03-04 Cobras also had a $1000 gas guzzler tax added and were EPA'd at 16 in the city, if I remember correctly. I'm definately feeling the additional hit at the pump, even with regular unleaded.

In all honesty .... It is worth the price .... Whether on track or otherwise ....
to answer your question ... No ... If I pick up another Cobra, or whatever they are going to call it, gas will not affect my decision.

Yup, that's the truth. However, I must be honest I've done it myself in extreme situations.
A couple of years ago we had a situation in Phoenix where the main pipeline that feeds the metro area ruptured and had to be taken down. The media got a hold of it and had a field day. A literal panic ensued and people who didn't even need gas filled up. Guess what! Because of that some station owners decided to cash in, in some case charging $5+ dollars a gallon. The Valley ran out of gas quickly before the supply chain could catch up.
I drove 50 miles to fill up outside of the county where gas was plentiful at $1.87, no waiting.
People in Phoenix were paying $2.00-$5.00 and waiting for hours for the privilege.

Kinda like when Jack Daniels went from 86 to 80 proof.

In Tennessee you can still buy 90 proof Jack Daniels, and its darn smooth.
We have 93 octane here and its 2.14 a gallon, it's only going to get more expensive as the summer approaches.
