Don't know Kev...

Would they use that moniker or go with another CobraR

I would personally like them to stick with the 'R'
but if the KR was produced, it would be what the R is.

After this, really, how much farther can you go?
HP can only go up so far...what about weight going down etc.

I highly doubt it. I don't think Ford would build a more powerful car than the GT.

I'd be willing to bet that after a couple of years of the GT500 Ford will bring an "R" model. Ford's strategy with the Mustang over the last few years has been to keep the flame burning and the fans anticipating.

They don't need to make if more powerful if they make the "R" model considerably lighter than the GT500.

Yea, they just need to make a mustang with better power to weight ratio & better handling then the GT500.

Now here's where the IRS may come into play with a weight reduction (almost an oximoron but hear me out). Add the IRS/better front suspension, dump the AC/rear seat or anything else that could add unwanted weight, up the tune a bit and you have yourself the "R" model like the '00 R was. Limit it to roughly 300 units and that should get the auto-x guys mouths watering. The price would jump a bit just like the '00 R did but if you want pure performance, you'll pay for it.

I hate to tell you guys but i heard that they are coming out with a more powerful mustang then the GT500 i think saleen is coming out with a supercharged one that has between 500-550hp but it will cost more then the GT500. Me i am getting the GT500 it wont cost much at all to get the GT500 to make 600hp.

The question wasn't whether tuners such as Saleen or Roush would come out with more powerful Mustangs but whether SVT would offer a more powerful GT500.

And SVTstinger how can you say they need to make a mustang with better power to weight ratio and better handling then the GT500 do you know that a magazine said Carrol Shelby drove a GT500 test mule for 5 hours and when he got finished driving said WOW that is more then i could dream it would be and he has drove fast cars all his life and when a car impresses him you know it is going to be one heck of a car. My point is why dont you wait until the car comes out and drive it before you say bad stuff about it.

I'm sure there will be an "R" model within the next couple of years to keep the excitement high. I could see slightly higher HP rating but I think lower weight will be the big key along with suspension enhancements. Ford just may wait until the next "R" to introduce the IRS given their commitment to the SLA in the GT500.

Who know what they will call it, personally, I'd stick with Cobra R, simple and effective. Whatever it is called, I'm sure it will reset the bar in Mustang performance just as previous generation "R" models.

By lowering the weight of the car. It will help peformance all around (acceleration, handling, and braking).

OK, try to comprehend this: there are two ways to make a higher performing GT500 (which is the actual topic in case you don't get it): more HP or less weight. I'm approaching this discussion from the less weight aspect. It's on topic so don't start preaching to me about being on topic noob!

I think this car will be one of the fastest cars on the road think about this it has the same engine the 2000 cobra R has and the cobra R does the quarter mile in 13.2seconds and 0-60 in 4.4seconds and plus this car has a supercharger this car will smoke any car on the road except for the new 2006 Z06 but with easy mods you can make this car unbeatable. And for under 40,000 from what i heard and have more then 450 hp no car will be able to compete with the price our the power for that price.

Oh God...I guess I have to spell everything out for you: whatever the actual production weight of the GT500, lowering it will produce a higher performing car (aka an "R" version), which is the entire focus of this discussion.

Talk about not understanding the topic...let me reiterate: the topic is whether SVT will produce an "R" version of the GT500. It's not about how the regular GT500 will perform nor how it compares to the 2000 Cobra R.
