I don't know much about these types of supercharger but saw a old cobra that had a twin screw. Is this new shelby a twin screw? If not can it be swapped out for one?

The 03-04 Cobra was a single screw, the Shelby GT500 has two.

Yeah, it's a twin screw alright: MSRP + AMV.

What AMV. Sure lots of dealers will mark them up, but look around and you'll find a few reputable dealers. May be few and far between, but they exist. I plan to get a GT500, but not if it means paying a markup.

The 03/04 Cobra is a zero screw blower. It is an Eaton roots style blower, it looks similar to the Lysholm (twin screw) but functions 100% differently. The Eaton just pumps air, it does not compress it. Despite rumors to the contrary, I expect that the GT500 will have a Lysholm design simply because the Eaton M112 is not big enough to feed the 5.4L. I suppose Eaton could create a bigger roots blower, call it an M134 ... but I sure hope not .

Both are positive displacement blowers. Boost levels depend on the relationship of how much volume they are pumping vs how much air the motor is comsuming per revolution. The roots type in the 2003-4 Cobra uses linear lobes while the Lysholm uses an intermeshing screw, which is more efficient thermodynamically and volumetrically (i.e., less heating of air charge and less hp to drive a given volume of air.) The Lysholm is more difficult to machine however, so they cost a bit more.

Kenne Bell is claiming GT500 is going to be a larger Eaton unit and not a twin screw. It's on their webpage, and once I find the link again, I'll post it later this morning.

Go here:

http://www.kennebell.net/techinfo/f...ORvsLYSHOLM.pdf

I will be pretty disappointed if this is true. This car needs a twin screw, not to cut corners on the production unit.

Then again, this info is from January, before the Shelby was unveiled, so there is hope.
I know that I, for one, will be alot less enthusiastic about this car if the KB info is correct.

Look at the date of the KB page - 1/26/05! That was two months before the Shelby's debut at the NYIAS!

Now go to Ford's SVT website for the Shelby. They say it's a screw-type.

It does say screw type but not twin screw. That could be a sign that they've decided to back off from the twin screw.

It doesn't say "lobe-type" or centrifugal, what other kind of "screw-type" is there other than twin screw?

What we have here is a disagreement in claims between Ford and Kenne Bell ... for a FORD product. Someone please save the Kenne Bell PDF so we can taunt them when the 06 Cobra is released with a twin screw...

The supercharger is a Whipple 2300AX twin screw.

See: http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/...sp?ProdID=1170

"Same supercharger as the new Ford GT, 07’ Cobra, 08' Lightning & Harley Davidson Truck, Mercury Marine 600SCI and 1075HP EFI"
