I was just interested in seeing how everyone felt now that the intensity level has diminished and we have all had a chance to critically evaluate the new Shelby.

I'm gonna try like heck to get one. My 30th birthday will be the end of summer '06, so what better present for myself than the GT500! If they are available without paying over MSRP I'm in. If not, I may just have to get something else, perhaps another SE or trade my harley in for a Big Dog Chopper.

EDIT: Maybe there should be a response in the poll like : Going to get one if I can actually find one/order one without going over MSRP. If not, getting something else.

I chose to wait to see what next SE is coming. I can't wait to see the Grande and the return of vynilweave inserts.

All depends on pricing. I won't pay a dime over MSRP, and if MSRP turns out to be $39,995 I won't bother. 40k might not be a ton for a 450+hp car, but for 23k at my local dealer I can get a GT, and for 4k I can drop in a procharger bringing the total HP to a conservative 445, thus the horsepower factor really isn't an issue. At 13k over the price of a GT with a supercharger, I would have a really hard time justifying it.

The original MSRP estimates of 35k are more in line, so time will tell, but even that suggests I would be spending several thousand just to have the name "Shelby" on the decklid.

Truthfully, I'm not even sure I want to wait until summer of 06 to buy my next vehicle, so I might just opt for an 06 GT.

If it's under $40k for the H-top, and they offer a 'vert for under $45 (with the performance as promised), I am in for a 'vert. Otherwise, I may wait for the next SE, or buy something completely different. I really need that in a convertible...

I will wait to see the production model, and wait to see the first SE before making my decision. I know that means a year or even two before I actually buy one, but I can't afford to be spontaneous and then decide I want something else...

where is the "if I can afford one by then I will buy one" option?

I was imagining mine pewter with white stripes and shelby letters, a smaller pully, long tubes dual 3 inch and an intake would be perfect, not taking it too far from stock that it couldn't be put back easily, but enough to make it stupid fast (more so than it is).

Also I think the 450hp number is way conservative, and it'll probably have much more.

Money will probably keep it out of my range. Even if it was, I would proabably prefer to mod a GT or SE to my liking than blow every penny I have to spend and drive a stock car.

Now, if I win the lotto.....

Anything new with the GT 500 coming out in a Vert? If so When? If there isn't one in spring 2007 I will order a 06 GT Vert instead. That Tungsten Silver is making me very impatient right now! :bang:

Personally, the decision would be an easy one if Ford had chosen to include the IRS in the package for under $40K. Without it, I can't justify the premium increase over the standard GT. I'll reserve final judgement until I see the production version but right now I'm considering either (1) purchasing a Shelby or (2) purchasing a GT and then spending the extra amount on modifications. I can't wait to see if Ford makes any changes in the production model, like offering an IRS as an option
