Does anyone know if they're taking deposits on the shelby mustang yet?

Some dealerships are starting lists and taking "deposits" to be on the list. I'm sure that money works just like a normal deposit would. It's just before anything is in the dealers' systems to do anything with the deposit. I'd try calling around to dealerships and ask. I'm sure some of the memebers here who are dealers will give some thoughts too.

When I picked my car up a month ago, the salesman told me (they are an SVT dealer) that they had 6 deposits already and this was just a week after it was unveiled.

I placed my deposit the week it was unveiled at the NY Auto show. I'm not sure if you try to get on a list now if it'll be of any help. I was told that dealers will be lucky to get 3 cars apiece.

I'm not too worried about deposits. I never - under any circumstances - purchase a vehicle without seeing it and driving it first.

Once production begins - allocations or no - I guarantee if you walk into a dealership with the cash in your hand they'll bend over backwards to order you one.

I understand what you're saying but....what happens if they can only get x amount of cars and only the people who put down a deposit will have 1st crack at it? I just wasn't taking any chances so i got my butt down to the dealer and plunked down my deposit to secure myself on the list. Order sheet has my list # on it. Since this will be the 1st new car i purchased since '89, i didn't want to blow it.

I guess my point was that I'm not worried about 1st crack. There'll be enough Shelby's for more than just the "1st crack" people, and I want to inspect and drive the car before making a final decision.

How much is the deposit the dealers are asking for?

Ok there is noone out there that can get on the list yet salesman who tell you they can get you on the list are just messing with you the only way you know your on the list is if you go to the dealership and you put money down to hold the car that is the only way your for sure. Your only fooling yourself if you think you can get on the list without putting money down on the car. And 05redfiregt yes only SVT dealerships can get the shelby i went to about 10 dealerships and everyone of them told me the same thing we cant get them cause you need a license to carry SVT cars they said to get a SVT license you need to sell a ceartain amount of cars and i also asked them if they could just order me the shelby so i wont have to buy it a hour away and if something brecks on it i dont want to take it all the over there where i bought to have it fixed since only SVT mechanics can fix it.

It sounds like cooldenver wont being seeing that deposit again cause every SVT dealership i talked to said they will not be taking deposits from anyone until close to when the car comes out i hope you can get your deposit back someone ripped you off bad. They cant take deposits right now cause noone knows how much the car will be right now they havent gave a price that is in stone.

Ok, not sure about the SVT dealers only. Was told that ALL Ford dealers will have one to sell.

I plunked down a $500 deposit to get on the list at my SVT dealer. Dealt with the vice president of that dealership (a friend of mine) and was told he'll do MSRP for me. I'm going to stop in next week just to say "hi".

Well Fia cobra tell me where you got that great deal cause i want to go over there and get a shelby at msrp they must be dumb over there cause every dealer knows they are going to be able to get alot more on the shelby then msrp since there only making about 7000 of them a year well from rumors they might make more. And no only SVT places get the shelby only ford places that have license to get them can get them from what i have been told. They dont even know the price on the car and nether do you so why would you put a down payment on a car that noone knows for sure what it will cost that isnt to smart i would have waited to see how much it cost first.

MSRP for a Shelby is not dumb. It is good business. That dealership will keep you coming back for years to come, if they don't screw you on your shelby deal. When the Shelby is paid for, I'll need a new pickup and my wife will be replacing her van. Before long my kids will need cars. there is a lot of potential future sales out of good dealer/customer relationship. I am getting mine at sticker and I am first on the list at this dealer (unless powerlease people bump me).

As far as the periods, just put one at the end of each statement.

like:
tell me where you got the good deal. I want to go over there. Every dealer knows they are going to get a lot more...7000 a year. From the rumors they might make more.

None of us are arguing with you because we don't think you know anything about the car. We are arguing because you are so closed minded. These people are Mustang junkies and have read all the available articles and internet rumors. We are right there with you on that. Just open up that mind and realize that these people are also well versed in the car world. Oh yeah, learn the punctuation and paragraphing thing, please. I skip a lot of your posts becasue they are too hard to read.

Ok, i'm gonna try to work with you here. Lets go over a lil' history, shall we? I spent 10 years working for this dealer (not as a salesman) and i'm good friends with the Vice President. I was there as he went up through the ranks. I've purchased a few cars through them and i lease all my cars there. When i sat down with him over the Shelby, he wished me luck and told me he'd love to see me get the car. As for pricing, he told me he knows it's gonna be a big mark-up on it but said since we're talking "me", not to worry, he'll give it to me for MSRP. He apologized for not being able to do any better (a plan, x plan, 007 plan....whatever) I told him i understood and was pleased about MSRP. As far as what the MSRP is going to be? Well, no one knows for sure but from what everyone in the world has been saying for the past 3 months is it's going to be around 40K. I can live with that and guess what? If it turns out to be a lil' more than that AND i don't really like the car, i can always sell it for profit since i paid MSRP.....but something tells me i'll be keeping the car!!
This is not about money....it's about getting something i'll enjoy for years to come and you can't put a price on that.

Oh, and another thing...not to pick on you but, how old are you? I'm almost guessing you're from another Country other than the US.

Ok crazy horse and Fia cobra when you get a shelby for msrp price that will be when pigs fly and when your able to put a payment down on the car also right now that will be when heck freezes over cause like i said noone on the planet is getting the shelby for msrp i promise you that looks like your car salesman is just messing with you and noone has there name or is able to put a down payment on the car right now cause noone knows how many cars they will get on there lot or if they will get any or have you heard there isnt going to be many produced so that right there tells me your lieing. I know all about this car from top to bottom i have been reading up on this car and trust me i know heck of lot more then you are that other guy about it. Also i can prove your lieing about putting a down payment on the car cause if you did they give you some sort of paper saying you did so why dont you put it up on here to show people you put a down payment on it you cant cause you havent your lieing. And about being 40grand actually rumor is it will be under 40grand around 39grand but thats just it its a rumor just like you getting the shelby for msrp and putting a down payment on it thats a rumor also until you can prove it.
