A svt guy a the dealership yesterday told the GT500 will pretty close to being same car as the GTr. The GT350 will pretty much have the same engine as the 03 cobra (blower on the 4.6). Price should be around $35,000 for fastback, vert around $40,000. GT500 will have th 5.0 "cammer" engine, not the 5.4. Price will be around the $50,000 mark. Shelby bought into svt and is working with them. Again, these are rumors. He seemed to know what he was talking about though. Belongs to clubs all around, and talks to many people within FORD. He's now a sales rep, but was a svt mechanic for 5 years. Will see.
If this is the case, I would prefer the GT350 model. I don't want a racecar like the GTr, I want a fast stock Mustang. Therefore, GT350 must be for me. Anyway, just another 3 weeks and we'll find out.

GT500 will be like this car, minus the tail.

I'm a little skeptical on this. From what I understand, the 5.0 Cammer isn't approved for commercial vehicles. I seem to remember it has something to do with it not meeting long term durability specs or some such. Perhaps someone else can remember.

This would run somewhat counter to what someone else heard ol Shelby himself let slip on a radio program -- that the Shelby Cobra (GT500?) would have a SC 4V 5.4.

I could see a GT350 having either a production Cammer motor, hi-po 4V 4.6 or perhaps the SN95 Cobra's SC 4.6. I would guess the most likely to be the hi-po 4V 4.6 with 350-375hp, tight six speed and GTR'esque styling (toned down just a bit). It would be the hi(gher) strung road racer to the GT500's big motor uber Stang.

I could also see a non-Shelby Mach I with either a naturally aspirated 3-4V (Cobra Jet) 5.4 and/or a (Super Cobra Jet?) supercharged version. But it would have the old truck (live) axle out back and be geared/tuned specifically for the drag strip.

I think it's due to emissions(?)

just a guess, but, no. There has never been an auto Cobra before. There were some spy shots last year of a mustang with a paddle shift system in it. That might be a possibility.

How does the paddle shift work, is it like a semi auto, were theres no clutch but you still shift up and down?

To get 5.0L, they had to increase the bore from 90.2MM to 94MM, which I thought was a no-no with the mod-motors, at least for a production vehicle. It was something about cylinder walls being too thin.

After reading all this speculation, this makes most sense to me,

GT350 $35K - N/A 350hp

SVT Cobra $40K - S/C 420-450hp

GT500 $55K+ - S/C 500+hp

What's not correct? About the bore spacing?

I cant emagine the bore spacing being any tighter than the 2005 z06. That's about as close as you can get it.

I think the problem is that the bore spacings are already tight on the mod motors.

there are different technical variations in the design. Basically, the tranny is like a manual, but, a computer shifts for you and operates the clutch. You tell it when you want it to shift up or down by tapping a paddle mounted on each side of the steering wheel.

Be aware that there are paddle shifter set ups that aren't like you describe. Mazda has paddle shifters in the automatic RX-8s but the tranny is a traditional automatic. There's no clutch at all. It's really no different than the automatics that have a "sport-shift" mode where you can manually shift it.

What is the purpose of a paddle shifter. Makes no sense to me. If you want to shift, get a manual.
