im thinking no:

while at the same time making the most of the engine's broad torque curve. The

I only drive automatics and I don't want to see the Shelby Cobra with one, it just wouldn't be right. I'd want to freshen up my manual shifting skills again if I was getting this car.
I do believe that there will be an automatic tranny option (a new 6 speed automatic) on future SVT S/E's at some point in the near future but that is still not 100% certain at this time. But, whether it will be available with the Shelby is almost certainly a "No".
We'll see.

Vette owners? There hasn't been a good looking Corvette since 1963. Vette owners can go weep in their mocha lattes at Starbucks, if they can get their botoxed faces to emote.

Come on, you're holding back. Tell us what you really think.
I think offering both a manual and auto would be good business. People with bad knees or some other type of physical reason for not driving a stick (or that ones that just don't want a stick) would get the opportunity to own a GT500. It would bring a whole new group of customers into the SVT fold.

The transmissions that they put on the Ferrari's would be cool, the paddle shifting that doesn't have a manual clutch that you have to push.

Ford is either stupid or arrogant in not offering a A/T; the early Shelby Mustangs had A/T available, and it doesn't appear to be a problem for Chrysler/Dodge SRT products- they can ONLY be had with A/T (except the Viper).
The only A/T Cobra's that I have ever heard of were built in 1966. Shelby built 6 GT-350 verts and were not for sale to the public. These cars were built for friends and all had autos with non functioning rear brake scoops.

Guys, go to www.svt.ford.com and let the intro load with the new GT500 and listen to the soundclip. Its definitely a drive-by with an automatic trans. You can hear it kick down to 2nd and then chirp 3rd gear with a sound that is clearly an auto trans. Maybe they're experimenting with both choices.
cobras aren't meant do have an automatic it wouldn't be right to have one in it. besides who doesn't like rowing through the gears it's entertaining. but that doesn't mean they won't put one in there but if they did i'd suspect it would be geared a whole lot different like the mach 1 where which i think would be a bad thing.
