Question on the hood vents. Where does the rain go

Hope that hood doesn't just let water run done the front of the engine.

Why not? It won't hurt it. When you drive in the rain your engine gets wet.

On the 03/04 Cobra, water that runs through the vents hits the top of the hood blanket (which has a layer of metal on the side facing up) and runs off to the sides. I took out my hood blanket and removed the plastic shields from the vents, and just let the water fall straight down -- it doesn't hit the engine, it mostly goes in between the engine and radiator, a little hits the top of the power steering reservoir, but that's sealed.

Welcome to Ford's typical "bait & switch" routine.

The car's already low key enough - lose the hood treatment too, and you can kiss many buyers good-bye, I'll wager. They're already going to "dumb-down" the wheels to 18".

Actually, in retrospect it seems unlikely to me that they'll lose the hood vents. That engine will need heat extractors like the last Cobra, so this actually sounds like B.S.

My guess is that this car is indeed 90% the way there, and Ford has released it early so that it can massage the final details based upon both production issues and consumer feedback. Rest assured someone in the company is reading all our comments here.

My only major qualm with the car is that I wish they'd given the same alternative treatment to the rear end as they did with the front end. Take off the ducktail and the Shelby letters and you have a plain jane GT. Not different enough, IMHO.

Hood vents will probably be there, but Ford could change their size a little if they feel like it. They were obviously interested enough to waste time testing them for areo factors so I don't see them dumping them now.

The rear wheels are probably coming down to 18s.

The only big issue I see is what blower setup is going on this car? Ford is very aware to how popular it was for people to make more power in 03/04 and might want to limit warrenty claims this time around.

There is also the different bumper cover, which has the "strakes" in the middle, and the black section along the bottom. Overall, this is nearly the same set of modifications they made to the 03/04 Cobra.

I agree though, that more distinction in the rear would be better. Hard to say what, though. I would like the "SHELBY" lettering to be thinner -- the size of the letters seems okay, but I'd like the lines making up the letters to be narrower. I'd also like to see louvers or scoops for the quarter windows. And maybe push out the fenders a bit and put some wide meat back there.

And while we're at it, let's change the iron block to aluminum, make the body from titanium to save weight, give it a SMG tranny, optional IRS, and rocket motors.

Those vents are perfect for heat extraction.
Most so called hood scoops are abosolutely useless as they are in the completely wrong position for air intake, including the Mach 1 shaker.

At the front of the hood there is a low pressure area as air flows up over the leading edge of the hood. The vents in the GT-500 show car would s*u*c*k air through the radiator and improve cooling due to the low presure area above them. Look at a 1966 Ford GT race car. They have the same sort of vents.

If you really want air to go into the engine the 2 places to put the intake are either in the grille or at the BACK of the hood, near the cowl, NOT in the middle of the hood (like a Mach 1 shaker). The Mach 1 shaker is all for show, it has NO effect on performance.

one of the annoying quirks with the 68 GT500KR hood is as the hot air leaves the extractors it heads directly into the cowl vents!, now on a cool day that is not always bad...bad on a hot summer day, as soon as you pull on the vents here comes a big blast of overheated Cobra-Jet engine compartment air!. when you roll down the windows it just wraps itself right on around the A-pillar and inside the cabin.
