Aftermarket 2005+ Mustangs Discuss the Offerings from Roush, Saleen, Steeda, Shinoda, and Others

Nothing "unShelby" about the '07 GT 500.

With all the critiques about the GT500 I wanted to share what I see in this car. I see a little of all of the earlier Shelbys in this car. Overall, its really a cool car. I see a little of all of the earlier year models as follows:

65 - no brake scoops and stock tail lights and LeMans stripes
66 - rear quarter window and stock tail lights
67 - raised hood with double scoops and "Shelby" letters on the back with a D/A
68 - larger grilles above and below front bumper line
69 - offset Cobra emblem in grille
70 - offset Cobra emblem in grille (they were left over 69's)

The only really off center thing I see are the wheels. Those came from out of the blue. I would really like to have seen the fender and quarter panel vents from the GT-R on the Shelby. These are quite functional and very clever. They work by pulling air out of the wheelwell as out of a vent rather than pushing air into it as through a scoop. On the other hand, it would probably be expensive to tool up for those things and perhaps they would be difficult to keep clean. Perhaps fading brakes from heating is now not as big a concern as back then.

I think overall this is the best Mustang ever. I just feel sorry for Saleen and Roush, I fear that their market will evaporate when this thing hits the street.

The wheels could easily change by production. I have a feeling they'll go to all 18s anyway. Word is the production car will be at Detroit next year so we'll have a long wait.

That is because a lot of people here don't know the difference between a real 67 Shelby, and a prop from the "domestic guy's" version of The Fast and the Furious.
