Its not a Joke, or a rumor, or a pointless cause:
Click on me (Quote from two Mustang Team Engineers)
Take it lightly and we will be driving FWD Mustangs in the near future. Oh and who says internet petitions don't work? Most of you may have not been around but back in 1992 there was a "rumor" that Ford was going to kill the Mustang line and replace it with the Probe as its flagship two-door sports car. A massive Fax/email/phone petition convinced Ford to keep the Mustang, now what happened to the Probe?

Fax and phone. The internet was nothing back in 1992. I would say it was 1/100,000th of that push to stop the FWD mustang was attributed to email.
I didn't say "petitions are pointless". Internet petitions are pointless. The signatures can easily be faked (and often are). Fax and phone, thats another thing, and that can actually do something.

The ford mustang was supposed to be replaced by a front drive 4 cyl in 1987 People heard about this and many people did write ford to beg them not to make the mustang a front drive 4 cyl car.
Ford was overwhelmed by the reponse and change the name of the 4cyl design to the Ford Probe which was then released in late 1988.
Email wasnt in wide spread use in 1987 and most of the response was via snail mail and phone message. Ford executives even recieved a few death threats.
You can read a brief history about the ordeal here.

A rumor on a Lightning board said both the Lightning and Cobra are ahead of schedule and could be ready to go sooner if Ford wanted. I think Ford is just pulling the funds right now away from the Lightning and deciding what to do with the SVT name/group. After they figure that one out we will get the Cobra then the L probably the very next year.
As for the petitions, I don't think we can compare this to the Probe/Mustang era, regardless if it is an email campaign, fax, or letter. The reason I think this is because both SVT vehicles in question sell in low volume compared to the V6/GT Mustang. Loss of 150,000 sales a year would be a big loss for Ford. 15,000 Lightnings shelved for a year or so is not as big a deal to them.... profit wise.

I'm gonna call
until I see a press release from Ford.
If its true, It will give me a reason to go buy that mystichrome vert.

Quite honestly, I agree with Grantsdale on this one. So many names can be forged that its not even funny. A actual written letter has much more of an impact. Also, I really don't trust an online petition, because you don't know who is collecting the information, and will it be used for the purpose intended?

Exactly my point
It wasn't email, just faxes, phone, and snail mail. Those petitions work. If you want to save SVT (if this is true), use those. Not online or email petitions.

I know how you feel because I was looking at that Cobra on Saturday. It's the last one left in the area and for some reason they can't sell it. I think it's down to 36K now. I'll wait and see if it gets to 32 ....

[/b][/quote]I want a coupe too. The vert was in the paper a few weeks ago for around 36 and they had one orange coupe left at 29K. The coupe was gone that week ....

Grantsdale.... for once, I have to say, did you read the thread I posted?? It asked for people to write a letter and fax it to SVT
Also, one of the guys that answered the thread had a reply from the marketing manager at SVT basically saying "Please send as many letters / faxes as you can, the voice of the public cannot hurt"
Grantsdale, if you want to have a go at me like you did against Sendero over the s/c's, please do, but before you do, please read the original thread I posted before you go off on one !
I didn't post this because I thought it would cause an argument, I posted it because of a genuine fear that SVT is about to be no more......
James
No, I don't read other boards, i dont have that kind of time ... it said "sign the petition now" so the only way to do that is to have an online one ...
as i have said ... letters/faxes/phone calls yes, emails/online petitions no

If the Cobra is really dead, then why are the engineers at AAI working in Dearborn with SVT to discuss strengthing of the S197s frame for the proposed 480-490 HP that it will put out??? Anyone care to answer that one.
