No IRS for '07 Cobra
How rumors evolve.
Bill tells Ted : My friend mike jacked the plans for the new cobra so his kid could see them!
Two weeks later....
Ted tells Fred: Did you know that Micheal Jackson plays with his snake in front of kids?
Two weeks later
Fred tells the police: Micheal Jackson molests children!
The only competition for the cobra will be the Vette and m3/m5. there not going to get those buyers without things that appeal to them. 98% of the people that drive m3s for instance don't know crap about what their driving. But if they hear about a car that doesn't have irs they will think it isn't as good. They are in another market with $40,000 + car and will not make a car that seems less capable. :tex:
P.S. i say 98% because the couple of people who have them on these boards seem intelligent enough.

Being someone who owns a Cobra with IRS, if Ford does decide to go with the IRS, I think that it should be optional, as others have said. The solid axle is much better for drag racing and as many have said the new setup is just as good or better than the IRS in the handling department. The ride quality is not noticed in most situations and it stinks for drag racing. Heck if my car could pull off the 60' times that the 05 can, I would be in the 11's.
Everyone knows that the new cobra will be fully armoured, 4 wheel drive with a dually rear end, float, fly, weigh only 1700 pounds, have 1200 horsepower turbine engine with factory nitrous, get 100 mpg, all for under $20,000.
But it wont be available with the IUP. :lmao:

This whole notion that IRS rears in general can't handle lots of power hard launches seems a little hard to believe. Most high power cars out there - Vipers (500 hp), Corvette Z06 (400 hp), Ford GT (550 hp), etc. - sport IRS rears.
The quickest of these are running low 12 second quarters; modified Vipers are well into the 11s. I've never heard anything about them grenading rear ends all over the place. Is this a problem in these applications? Corvette owners particularly seem to drag race their cars and I've never heard of that car's IRS being a particularly weak link.
My sense is that the Cobra IRS was a comprimise - an IRS that had to fit into the Fox platform. A from-scratch IRS with a chassis designed for it should me much more capable. Correct design should get rid of wheel hop, a strong diff and half-shafts should be just as capable of taking abuse as a live axle.

Went to that building/lot today and see if I can spot it again.. but just spotted the other silver GT with the 18" rims.
But.. it could be hiding something too... Can you tell anything based on this pic?

Again.. this isn't the one I spotted with the HUGE hood scoop.. it's the other one that was there... so to not confuse anyone.

I know Canadian stang is definately in a position to give accurate info based on what i've seen in the past. The question is, is this a trial car (ie. they have IRS cars too) or is this the real deal?
Maybe if Amy gets that pic (one from the rear hopefully) we'll be able to tell.
