I received this from a dealer to which I had inquired on a GT500 waiting list...

Ever since the GT 500 info. hit the net and the car has been shown at the New York Auto Show we have been bombarded with inquires and order requests. We are now at this time organizing the list and taking deposits to secure spots on the list in hopes of sifting out those who will actually be able to get their hands on one. We are planning on having 15 GT 500s to sell. At this time we are requiring a $1,000 deposit which will hold your spot and the price will be no less than $25,000 over MSRP. Production will be around 7,500 total for 2007. You may stop by anytime to leave your deposit and secure your spot in history for what will be the hottest, baddest, muscle car ever to hit the road!
I replied...
Go ahead and remove me from your "list". $25000 over MSRP...that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time...and $1000 to be on the list to boot!
I'll have to share this with my friends on the net. I'm sure they'll appreciate me letting them know which dealer to avoid in this region.

Pity the poor fool that pays $65,000 for a $40,000 car.

Which dealership?

Why don't a couple of you send Apple Ford an email on how you feel about the gouging..

Phone: (410) 290-1100
Fax: (410) 290-1540
Email: sales@appleford.com

That's the worst thing I've ever heard. This car will be made for more then 1 model year, and as bad as I want one, I will wait 2-3 extra years and get one for the true cost of the car.

It's bad enough on the gouging on the Ford GT, but an SVT Cobra? Please!

I hope you guys aren't surprised by this. Word gets around on what we discuss on the boards.

And to make matters worst, some of dealers' employees can actually read.

Id doubt that they can read..if they could you would think they would know a thing or two about the new mustang such as what it was, when it was coming out, and wtf a Shelby is. I cannot believe how stupid some of them have been when I have asked about these things in the past few years. And $25,000 over MSRP is ridiculous. You know they will get it too is the worst part. Its ok when the lean years hit they will be crying to get you in the door and you can tell them to F off.

So lets see here, they think they’ll get 15 cars and they want at least $65K each. So that’s around $30k profit per car. The dealer’s owner must need a new lake cabin and thinks he’s going to raise a quick ½ mill just selling this one model. Wow is all I can say.

They might have a change of heart when the interest starts piling on. Low sales and magically they become very subservient. They better start thinking about watering Mr. Greenspan's beak, that's the only way they keep the prime rate down.

It's going to be alright for us guys. Trust me on this one. I've gone through this a few times.

Have you guys noticed every time a new car comes out the press labels it better than breathing, eating, or having sex and smoking a cigarette afterwards?

Well, if that's the case, then read this: FORD I have $50,000 Canadian waiting for you, and no more!

or a $35K vehicle -- a $5K gouge by Ford itself and the other $25K by the dealer.

NOT to be confused with Apple Valley Ford in Apple Valley MN.
We have a list, no deposit required for now, nothing to do but wait till 06. The day the GT 500 was introduced I spoke to 15 individuals, on the phone or visitors that expected to be putting money down to be on the list. Not So,
the fun begins next year! Since that day the list has grown two fold.

What needs to happen is there needs to be a dealer delivery system whereby those who want to get their car now can just go get one at the dealer, whereas those who want a specific one can order it online, Ford builds it, and ships it to a dealer near you, where you can pick it up.

Like JC Pennys for cars.

Even better, eliminate the dealer altogether. I go to a website, build my car, and then arrange financing. Then instead of the car going to a dealership, it gets shipped to my driveway.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Surely the car manufacturers have thought of this. They're in a perfect position to do it, and they make more money than if they sold it to a dealer.

In the span of a week, I've gone from elation to disgust....I'm not real optimistic about the availability and expect ridiculous ADM everywhere. I refuse to over pay for a depreciating asset. I waited out the 05's, guess I'll wait out this one too. Looks like I'll place my order in the fall of 06...but only time will tell

Besides, my Bullitt is paid off and only has 33K on the odometer

That will remain to be seen. We up-charged on our Cobra R a few years back, M.S.R.P. on our Cobras in 03, 04 including Mystichromes. We have upcharged on our only two stock GT mustangs 1k on the coupe and 2K on connvert.
The decision to upcharge will not be made untill we begin the process of determining the total demand and supply, and that will not be known untill Ford allocates. We are a volume SVT dealer in Minnesota, get our fair share of units.

The only fool is the guy paying the increase....

Had one dealership want 1k over MSRP for a Mach1 in 03.
That car sat and sat and sat on his lot for almost 1.5 years.

Just imagine the loss on that car for the dealership
Probably just gave it away
