Thumbs up

With a moderate level of driving (just cruising around) how long do you think the supercharger and engine will last?

Like any other mechanical device, excellent maintenance will have a profound impact on the life of a Shelby or any other auto. Regular maintenance such as oil and filter changes, etc will definitely contibute to years of smiles from the driver!!

I would say 100k or more. Just because it is a supercharged engine it doesn't mean it won't last as long as any other engine.

It's all in how it's built and maintained. If a high pressure turbo charged deisel can last 500k, then I would think a supercharged Ford mod motor could last at least 100k.

engine rebuild i think, just like a classic car, in twenty years, an enthusiast would want to keep it close to original( it never hurts to mod though!)

Regular maintenance should keep it running for quite awhile oil changes and tune ups when they are do are important.

By the time you need to look into an engine rebuild, the Clintons will be back in the White House and the internal combustion engine will be outlawed anyway.

Theres no reason a purpose built supercharged engine shouldnt last over 100,000 miles. There will be exceptions on both ends of the scale though. Some guys will blow it up at 10,000 miles some will ge them to last 200,000.

Well they gotta go at least 100k, thats a federal mandate for emisisons compliance (unless they've changed it).

its 80,000 but that only means the emissions parts have to last that long (cats, o2s, etc)

Well, I had 4 T-Bird Supercoups. I was on the road quite a bit. I wasn't a wuss by any means when I drove them. I kept the 1st one the longest- and put 112k on it. It ran like it had 30k on it (really). The others all worked out well, too. The key, especially with a high-performance engine, is to break it in properly before you flog it
, and to perform maintenance regularly (especially oil changes in s/c cars). If the engine was built properly you should have no problems.
