OK - so I spoke with a Saleen rep and asked this question:

If I buy an '06 Mustang GT from a Saleen dealer, buy a Saleen Blower Kit through that dealer, and then have that same dealer install the unit before I take deilvery, what is up with the warranty issues?

(I am realizing it will be extremely difficult to get my hands on an 07 svt, but want a supercharged mustang without trashing the factory warranty. I love the Saleen Sc-281's, but don't want to spend an extra 15-20k on a body kit, brakes etc. Me just want horsepower)

Anyway, their answer was a suprise, and potentially exciting news. They said they are working out final details on a plan (with Ford, I guess) that will allow us to do just what I am describing in the 1st paragraph above, and keep a 3-year / 36k mile warranty on not only the whole vehicle / powertrain, but also the supercharger system itself.

If anyone has any other info on this, or knows someone at Saleen, please let us know if it's for real. This could be a way to get a reliable supercharger on a new '06 GT and not have to sweat about blowing the motor up (for at least 3 years, anyway)

I remember hearing this batted around earlier in the year but I have not heard any new info on it. Perhaps one of the many members with ties to Ford, Saleen, CIA, etc can verify.

Yes, please.....................

Can you say warrantied GT with over 400HP / 420'lbs for way under 40k?

A few more mods, and you could possibly have #'s close to a "stock" svt

Just remember that three years isn't very long, and what I DO know (from talking to an authorized Saleen dealer here in town) is that while you can buy extended warranties on the Mustang, you cannot buy extended warranties on any of the Saleen components. So if anything goes wrong after the three years (and doesn't it always?), you're SOL.

With the Shelby, you'l be able to buy an extended warranty on the entire car.

Just something to keep in mind, cause I think extended warranties are a good idea on high-strung cars like this (especially since Ford only offers three years - not exactly industry-leading).

Good points. Trust me, I'd rather have the Shelby and I am on the "wait list" at a local dealer, but the reality of snagging one for less than 50k is slipping away daily.

The same dealer that said "I will not charge over MSRP since you are one of the 1st" several months ago is now not even returning my correspondence. They see "market adjustment" and dollar signs.

I'll pay over MSRP (don't hate me), but just not 10k+ . Actually, I'm more worried about allocation units. I really think (and have been told by area dealers) that it will essentially be a silent auction / bidding war for what few arrive in the midwest.

Any dealers out there want to help a guy out ?

What a class act. I'd be taking my business elsewhere, if at all possible.

What I find so ironic about this is that Ford hits ONE car out of the ballpark, and the dealerships and salespeople fall all over it like it was the second coming of Jesus.

Too bad Ford can't generate this kind of excitement across its entire product line. Ford and GM have come along way in the past five years, but they still have a long way to go if they hope to get out of the red and ever catch the Japanese.

Sometimes you have to wonder if Ford wants to sell more Mustangs. How many were they selling in 1965-1966, something like 300,000 units? Maybe if they built more they would sell more?

Some dealerships will give you extra warranties on saleen and aftermarket components if you buy it from them. When i bought my saleen, it was not supercharged at the time. I bought a supercharger 3 months later and that ford dealership gave me a 3 year warranty on the supercharger ... but no other ford dealership would touch it.

as I said on another post .. saleens are great cars but you have more value in a cobra, esp with a ford super charger installed.

Best value is to probibly buy a used saleen; most people do pamper them; i pampered mine, 4 years and 18K miles

I can tell you first hand there is a "supplemental" company who associates with dealers and offers "extended" protection coverage on aftermarket items to dealers. It is a private company who deals direct with the dealerships who choose to sell and install Hi-Po items on vehicles. What they do is if any "covered" item the dealership installs fails and or causes damage to the vehicle, this other company's warranty can kick in to repair or replace the damaged part.Basically you purchase this warranty like any other extended plan and it covers you in case of problems. How do I know this?..Well, We at Banks are working with this company right now on our product line...This is how "performance oriented" dealerships can get around the "FORD WILL NOT WORK ON THAT VEHICLE" mentality.Should something happen, the secondary company will deal direct with the customer and the dealership to get the vehicle repaired...
