So I hit the autoshow this morning. This Tom guy is up on the FORD GT display giving the spill about the supercar. After he came down, I started talking to him about the New York autoshow. He'll be there doing alot of the presentation (sp.). He says he has seen the 07 Cobra that'll be shown. It's the GT500. Red with white stripes. Pulled out his briefcase stacks upon stacks upon stacks of Mustang information. Showed me the Motortrend magazine (like I haven't seen that)with the Shelby Cobra pic in it. He said the car will be pretty much look the same. side exaust, but probably won't make production like that. Non functional hood scoop. NON FUNCTIONAL. Darn. And the engine? He says 5.4 w/supercharger. Same as the Ford GT. He says order banks will open late fall of this year with delivery spring to summer of next year as an 07. I asked about price. He hears 35,000 to 45,000. I can't imaging 35,000 if it has the GT engine. Again, he says he's seen it, and it'll look just like the car below. I forgot to ask about IRS or live rear axel. Dang. We'll see in about 10 days if this Tom guy knows what he's talking about or if it's just rumor bs.
Oh ya, Will have a ducktail with sequential lights.

PS. The Mustang GT had more people around it than some of the supercars.

I hope that is not what it looks like. The side exhaust is cool, but all they did in the pic was add stripes, the exhaust, and a hood scoop (which I don't think looks right on the 05). I sure hope he was wrong or lying

i'd be surprised if they put a non-functional scoop on there. I thought they wanted to get away from those.

(edit: pretty insignifcant 500th post if you ask me)

Well if that is what the new "Cobra" or "GT500" will be, it is pretty pathetic. If that is the case I guess the only Cobra I will own is my 94. I would much rather get an 06 or 07 GT and get one of the soon to be released Eleanor kits or the Street Scene front bumper. Building an engine is not that hard. And getting good horsepower isn't either. I must say I will be extremely depressed if that is the new "SVT" car. Maybe, there is still hope for a "BOSS". All Ford would have to do is put Boss 302 or 5.0 on the side of the new stang (of course matching the engine) and people would come out of the wood work to buy one. I can't remember how many times someone has come into the shop and said "my buddy has a 89 stang with a BOSS 302 in it". "I was like really". "How much did that cost to do?" Them: " O, it came stock like that from the factory". Me: "Wow, you must have the rarest mustang on the planet". Them: "Huh?". Me: "Nevermind!"

Ha ha ha! Since when do the "reps" at the auto shows know anything? Seriously, though, I hope that the new Cobra or Shelby or whatever it's called looks something like the GTR. That photoshop just doesn't do anything for me. :notnice:

As far as the new SVT "WhateverTheyCallIt" I'm hoping for something more like this.

I agree that most reps don't know anything. Maybe this guy is just blowing smoke. We'll see. I would really like to have that 5.4 supercharged engine though. Mobster, he showed me the hood you have on that chop from one of his promotional magazine. He said Ford wanted to use this hood, but they would have to do some different air intakes setups on the engine. I'm guessing if we get a 500hp engine around $35,000 to $40,000, Ford will find many ways to cut cost. I hope we do see a nicer version than the motortrend chop. Here's the one I'd like to see.

He did mention side scoops like this. Maybe we'll see this beast. Needs less of a bulge in the hood though.

I'm getting giddy.

I would love to see him being right about the dates though.

And he did show me lights just like this one that were sequential.

This guy Tom is full of it. The new GT500 will not look like that M/T picture. There's no way Ford would try to sell a Shelby that looks identical to the GT with exception of two stripes and a fake hood scoop.

It will not have the exact engine from the Ford GT. Have you see what that engine costs? 39K from Kar Kraft. You can't take a 39k motor and make a 35k car out of it.

The Ford GT's engine also uses a dry sump system. Modifying that will take time and money. I'm expecting a supercharged 5.4 3-valve engine.

I agree. It shouldn't cost ford much more than an 03/04 cobra motor. The dry sump ought to be about a $1000 more. The screw blower maybey $1500 more, and the extra 8 fuel injectors about $400 more. 40k should be a resonable price, and I would pay it in a heartbeat.

so how exactly would it have side exhaust?

Im doubting the GT engine but not the 5.4.

All I know is it better either look more like the concept or the GTR minus the wing and have IRS at minimum as an option.

Now this is the Shelby Mustang that Ford should build. Of all the chops that have come along in the past year, these two you attached are still far and away the best I've ever seen. This car would be one of the best looking vehicles ever to be seen on the road if it were to be built. I agree though, it needs a lower hood. Otherwise, this is Mustang perfection!
