Count your blessings you don't live in Europe. Our fellow stang drivers over there fork over a lot more money to fill their tanks and hardly ever complain about it. The reason? They are used to it. Americans are not used to it and I remember buying gas for well below a dollar which now would seem unfathomable. However, we adept fairly well to many situations and even if gas goes up people will get used to paying another $40 more a month. As stated above most people are used to paying for their SUVs which stink a lot more gas to get those bricks moving down the road.

I like the car, I like the nostalgia, and I am happy to be able to get an "affordable" Shelby. It is nice that he had another chance to end where he started. That said, 3 or 4 years from now we could be back to an SVT Cobra with IRS and all that other stuff. I am happy that with the new retro theme they made the Cobra retro as well.

This is not posted to start yet another live axle and IRS debate. Just saying I'm glad they kept the cost down and I'm sure some aftermarket company will make an IRS for those that want it eventually.

Well it just shows everyones passion for performance cars. Whether you like the New Shelby or not. I feel bad for the people who are disappointed with the car because alot of them were really hoping for more.....or less depending on what you like. We have all been there before when something doesnt meet our expectations. And it certainly is upsetting.
I for one love the car and am very happy with it. I have a few small quirks about it in certain places but overall I'm estactic. I think this car is really going to put FORD in the SPOTLIGHT for performance cars. Ive been over at the Corvette, LS1 and even GTO forums and most people over in those forums are Loving this CAR! And beginning to get mad at GM. lol
Sorry to all of you who dont like the car ( not sure why  ) but hey we have to remember that everyone has different tastes. And that is why we have so many different cars to choose from.
Now as for me...........i gotta figure out how to get some money rolling in so i can try and buy one of these BEASTS!! :bang:

Some of those Mustang owners on this site in Europe are paying the same for gas as we are around $2 a gallon.

One of the very big reasons that Eurpoeans pay so much more (and I am not saying it is the only reason) is that their governments tax the heck out of them on gasoline. So, it is not so much that we are getting a break as that the their governments are screwing them.

Thank you for the post Charlie. You pretty much nailed all of my feelings as well.

As far as Ford building the ultimate muscle/pony car? Thank God! BMW's M series cars are very nice, but if i wanted one of those, i would buy one of those! A Shelby Mustang should be the ultimate muscle/pony car, in my opinion.

This is a great forum, but now that the car is out there, i probably won't be back on a regular basis. Simply beacuse my main reason for coming here is to look for the latest information on an upcoming model. Now i have that info, until the next model anyway.

Also, keep something else in mind Charlie. In general, people who have a negative reaction to something tend to be far more vocal than those with a positive reaction. I think alot of people are happy like me, and now that they have seen the car, they will go back to their lives and download wallpapers and wait on their chance to order one. That leaves behind mainly the unhappy forum members who will use this space as a place to vent their problems with the new car. So, it kind of gives a skewed look at the public reaction.

So, don't get too bummed out. Trust me, there are plenty of us out here who are very happy with the car. I doubt Ford will have any trouble selling all they can build.

Granted it is because the government taxes them extremely, but they still are paying a lot more than us to fill up their tanks. Was just an overall point.

However, thanks for pointing that out and if they are paying the same as us they are getting a break. I know when I lived in Germany it was more than $2.

LOL I won't go too far. I always check back in from time to time to see what new info has popped up. But, the Shelby hits so close to the exact car i wanted, that i will have a hard time shifting my interest to any other SE models. But hey, you never know.

A garage with a '67 and an '07 Shelby GT500! I can't wait!
I'm not going near that garage with those VW tires and lug bolts flying around.

You know, when I woke up this morning, finished my first round of daytrading, and saw the new Shelby Cobra GT500 pics, I was so excited! It was official! A new muscle car era has been heralded! A new Golden Age, and no sign of a gas shortage in sight to stop us this time!

A new Shelby is being released in my generation. Back in the late-nineties, I would have laughed at such a prospect. I thought the days of muscle and Shelby were long gone, lost in the annals of soda pop, bellbottoms, and The Beach Boys. Never did I think we would see another Muscle Car era. Too many environmentalists, the different culture/attitude, the ricers breeding strung-out 4 bangers high on laughing gas... so many factors that I thought would never allow a new muscle car era to be born. Yet somehow against all odds, thanks to Hau Thai-Tang, Carroll Shelby, Ford, and us, the general public - its happened!

Then my excitement is crushed - tons of people whining and moaning about this or that. They don't share in my enthusiasm. They don't see the new Era that is unfolding before their very eyes. They don't realize that a mere 5 years ago we were still trapped in the Emasculating Nineties, that we had nothing to compare to the Golden Age of Muscle.

I read that there are some people out there who are going to rip their Shelby emblems off their Shelby GT500s as soon as they get them. Why?? This was the man who started it all! He gave us everything we had/have in the way of muscle cars. Without him, there would be NOTHING. You don't need to be born in the 40s to understand and appreciate what Carroll Shelby has done for the automotive industry. You should be PROUD to own a Shelby, not ashamed! This is probably his last car. The man is 80 years old. We should be honored for this final chance to own an authentic Shelby by Ford!

C'mon guys, show some excitement! Stop being bitter! I don't think enough of us in the forum have stepped back and looked at the big picture. We are all part of something huge, something special. The rebirth of an Era. Future generations will look back on this time as my generation (I'm 21) looks back on the 60s - with awe and reverence. Our children and grandchildren will ask what it was like to own a 2005 Mustang GT, what it felt like to feel that 2007 Shelby GT500's 5.4L engine screaming in your ears.

Of course, if I have my way, they won't have to imagine it. I'll take them down to the garage and show them. B)

A garage with a '67 and an '07 Shelby GT500! I can't wait!

I'm with you man, cheers!

Let me say this up front - I think the GT500 is the greatest Mustang ever built. Is that clear enough?

But - it can be even better. I'm not one who would rip off emblems and such; I would like to see a little more design work happen. But hey, I'm thrilled to live in an era where we see FACTORY BUILT 400hp GTO's, 300hp Mustang GT's, and 500hp Vipers and Z06's prowling the streets.

FACTORY BUILT!

This is indeed the Muscle Car's return and I am so grateful to be seeing it happen. But enjoying the time and being inundated with all the great machines we're seeing does not mean that people who may critique an aspect of any given machine are wrong - they're just espousing their opinion.

So, when the day comes that we can not be diversified in our opinions, respect others who do not share our opinion, and worse yet, began to censure and censor those who oppose our opinions, then my friend, we do not live in America as I know it any more. :nono:

Enjoy the debate and keep an open mind. If it were not for diversification, creativeness and the yearning for something different, we'll all be driving black 2005 Ford Model T's.

I've said it before because this is info from a source who is highly reliable (most of what he said months ago has INDEED proven true) - the Shelby will not be the only kid on the block from SVT with a Cobra moniker on it.

According to my source, there will indeed - at some point in the very near future - be a second, 'everyday man's' Cobra. The Shelby will be an elite version with a bit more hp and torque than the SVT Cobra offering will have.

We'll have to wait and see of course but it makes a lot of sense to me.

Plus, he says that we will DEFINITELY be seeing an lower hp version (most likely N/A) of this same motor in another S/E coming soon (within the next 12 months). No formal identification yet but it will either be a "Boss" (most likely candidate at this point) or a "Mach".

The Shelby is only the beginning of SE Mustangs that are SVT based.

as far as the oil discussion goes, we've got about another 20-30 years of relatively cheap gasoline....

Actually, I just picked my '05 up from the body shop... the paintjob is flawless, thankfully.

No worries about those tires/lugnuts... my father threw them out. He didn't want anything falling on HIS truck either, lol.

Thanx for the info Steve! I'm thinking the same thing as well regarding a "regular" type Cobra. But i think a 5.4 N/A SE model is a SURE FIRE SELLER because alot of people like N/A POWER! And i personally would like a MACH 1 but hey if it's a BOSS i wont complain. As long as it looks fantastic like this GT500.
Now let's all ENJOY what FORD has BROUGHT US TODAY!!

The Shelby isn't an M3 fighter. It's a Corvette fighter. The M3 isn't a challenge for it. The Mustang GT, with a few mods, is an M3 fighter. A future GT350 or Mach 1 would be an M3 fighter.
You sir, are completely insane.
