400+HP GTO a worthy alternative to no SE stang?
We know there's no SE stang till summer of '06 when the Cobra comes out.
It'll be $40K+
GM is about to drop in the 400+hp 6.0 LS2 into the GTO most likely within a year from now.
An LS2 GTO would be a high 12sec car
If the price remains around $33K and the car is available say next spring, would that get some buys from people waiting on SE stangs?

Very doubtful. Anyone waiting for a Stang must be a enthusiast, more than likely, and GTO isn't exactly shaking the bushes for new buyers, it's pretty sad actually. GM can dump a darn fine engine into the car...altho im not sure why they'd drive customers away from the Vette, and the price is sure to go up close to 40K, definitely not 33.
The new GTO gets little to no respect from Stang people from my experience, id worry not about competition, or driving people away with the wait.

I wouldn't consider a GTO until they restyle it, which I understand will happen around the 2007 or 2008 model year. I like many things about the GTO (interior, exhaust note, engine, and fit and finish), but I don't, along with many others, like the styling. So the answer is that I won't consider the GTO with a LS2 engine. I like Mustangs too much.
Although I unltimately want a SE Mustang slotted between the GT and the Cobra, I plan on purchasing a GT, once the 18" wheels are made available. I'd rather have an 05 Mustang GT than a GTO with the LS2 engine. IMO I get a much better looking vehicle, that is still a great performer, for a lot less $.

the GTO is a legend of a name...why would they dump it on a rebadged grand prix?....unless of course I haven't looked close enough at the pix

For that matter, all of GMs styling sucks now. Even the pickups got ugly.

Ford and Chrysler have much nicer looking vehicles. You watch. they'll try to give the GTO or the Camaro (when it comes out) at classic look like the stang.
I rode in the new GTO. I like the space in the back seat. The trunk absolutely sucks. Can't even hardly put one suitcase in there if you wanted to. It sounds awesome and is very quick but the exterior really sucks and that's the most important part..for me anyways. B)
The GTO is just some kind of GM Austalian kind of car badged as a GTO. Built down under, shipped over here. UPS or FedEx?
I think it is a sacralige(sp.) to do this. I bet John really hit the coke after he caught wind of what GM was doing to his beloved goat.

One advantage to GM vehicles. Your body style never gets outdated. How long have we seen this ugly a_ _ thing going down the road?
