All the SE models are quickly turning into rich men's niche cars...and two of them - this Parnelli Jones Edition and the Hertz Shelby GT-H - aren't even made by Ford, and the Hertz can't be purchased by ANYONE.

I think the Hertz models will be offered to Ford dealers once they hit 17K-19K miles on the clock.

That's a 5.0 (4.9 technically; 5.0 is Ford speak.) A 5.4 is 330 cubes...

The article says it's a 5.0L 3 valve so I'm assuming this isn't the old pushrod 5.0L (but I could be wrong). The old 5.0 vs 4.9 argument may not apply in this case.

The Hertz cars won't be offered to Ford dealers at all. They'll be auctioned off in 2007.

According to a USA Today article, as MTAS said, Ford dealers will have first crack at the used GT-Hs.

Now, could someone make a rear spoiler like that? I'd buy that in a second.

AMEN! Flat black, class Mach style. I'd ****** that spoiler up in a heart beat also.

Needs to be more Astony
Wow i thought it was awesome...until i read the price like everyone else.
and about the 5.0 vs 4.9 debate....even though its not the old pushrod engine...if its 302 ci then it would be a 4.9L still.

This is THE car I've been dying to see since the '05 spy shots surfaced. I was introduced to Mustangs by the 1970 Boss 302 my uncled owned. I was about 5 years old back in '82 when he had to sell it to buy his new house, but I was in love with that car and I've been obsessed with them since. This car would be the best possible Mustang I could own other than another 1970 Boss. I know the car in overpriced since it's a Saleen, and it has less power than the new GT-500. But I don't care. If I could find some way in heck to afford this thing, I'd buy it before the Shelby. It's more about a life-long obsession and emotional connection to this car than a practical "I'd rather buy the Shelby for less money and more power" type of thing.
Brad, is there any way to get some wall-paper sized pics of this car? And also, unless I missed it somewhere, is there any way to know how many will be made?
Does anyone want to buy a kidney or other organs? I'm selling for around $50k. Lol.
***Edit: Nevemind. I see there will be 500 made.***

Well, 302ci equates to 4.95L so if you round it up to 1 decimal place, it's 5.0L. It's just a matter of semantics really.

I wish Ford would have done that with the '05 engine and given us a 289 instead of a 281.

well first of all
props to Saleen for building a MAGNIFICENT car. its pretty much exactly what i'd want. its just.. WOW
but... for $50K?!!?! why couldnt this be 30?! 30!?!?!?
the wheels are pretty cool too. and since im pretty much never going to get an ACTUAL one, i may have to get those and slap em (along with all the body panels and accesories and stripes and whatnot) onto a used 05 GT in a few years
thanks Saleen, for giving us a great car, but then overpricing it to the point that many of us will struggle to be able to even afford a clone
oh and i feel pretty much the same about the GT-H. aint no way in heck ill be able to afford one of those either but i'd really rather not clone the GT-H, less fun..
CURSE YOU, OVERCHARGING AUTOMOBILE RETAILERS!! CURSE YOU TO HADES!!!

Ok, so now while I know (and have said myself how expensive the car is) it perhaps makes sense as they are only making 500 of them...
So the simple solution then is make more cars...why power in the hands of a few...why, why, why!!!!

Man, I want one. At least that engine.
That spoiler looks very much like the one Team Shinoda was working on, you can see that here : http://www.teamshinoda.com/ in the online shopping (old page).
I wonder if Saleen will sell the engine seperately? That'd be awesome, if it wasn't too expensive ($5-6K)

Nice idea -- especially the 302 engine and power (I just hope they didn't weaken the engine too much in the process). But, I am not sold on the exectuion.
The headlights especially look cheap, tacked on and way out of place (why not make proper headlights, ESPECIALLY for mid-$50k). I also am not sold on the GT500 lower section with the stock GT upper grill (again, problems with the details, like the lower opening being wider than the upper, etc.). I also agree with Sean about the grill being changed and loose the shaker hood (for authenticity).
Something more like this (sorry for the quick chop):
(inner "fogs" now are the headlights -- like the '70)
I dig the wheels (great modern interpretation of the old ones, even though they aren't 8 spokes) and the rear tail pipes and some of the other details, but think it falls short in far too many areas to be a $50k+ car.
All in all though, I can't believe many would pay as much as they are asking for this car when the collector market hasn't been proven and the Saleen name really doesn't have that much clout (compared to Shelby, et. al.). It is a shame though that no one (like Ford) is making a car like this available to a wider population (read mid-$30k).

I am gald it has a 5.0; this will give it some distinction from the rest of the mustangs. I searched around but cannot find if it is an auto, 5 speed, or 6 speed ... just curious.
The price is too high but it is suppose to be a collectors.
Lets hope ford releases a 302 production mustang in the 2009 body style with a six speed.
