The anticipation of the Cobra is killing me more than the wait for the unveiling of the original 2005 Mustang.

Looking at other forums and they say here is a pic of the new Cobra...
What is it? Are they testing a Cobra engine in a GT? Whats going on?

Just caught a quick glimpse of the new Road and Track (April), the GTR is on the cover, main headline something about 6 rippin' stangs, something like that. They've got the GTR, Saleen, V6 vert, GT, Steeda, and the Shelby GT500E.
Anyways, I just read the little sidebar with a picture of HTT next to it, talking about SVT and how its not dead, but still kickin strong. Talking about how its gonna start doing work on cars that won't necessarily be branded SVT, but will be performance versions of existing cars, like the Mach 1 and Marauder were. Saying they'll also tweek mercury and lincoln cars, again without branding them as SVTs. At least this is what i got from it, i read it pretty quick.
Anyways, the part we all care about, nothing shocking but....
they've got a tiny picture of that red mule with the bulge bolted into the hood. All they really say is... the next Mustang Cobra will be unveiled at New York, it'll have 450hp and a 6 speed. Nothing we couldn't already guess by ourselves. Notice the nomenclature though. They bring up the idea of Shelby cars, and how some people figured the Shelby nameplate would replace SVT, but they say that's wrong, SVT will be there alongside Shelby. If i remember right, they said something about Shelby's GR1 and other Ford cars tuned by shelby...
sorry, my memory is foggy. check out the magazine for yourself, it looks like a good stang issue anyway. Also i think i saw a review of a Zamboni machine.

lol, ya sorry for my half-assed report, i was in a rush to catch a bus.
I'm really curious to know about these other SVT possibilities. i mean, if you think about it, there isn't really THAT much mystery around the SVT mustang. We've got a pretty good idea about what its gonna be like, just a couple specifics we're not sure about. I wanna know about SVT fusions, lincolns, how bout an SVT version of the crown vic replacement, and maybe a new ranger with an SVT version. That's what i wanna hear about!

About the wheels... I hope those are not the ones we are getting (with an aluminum finish). They look to much like they belong on a civic. I hope we get something like last years cobra.

Whaaat? They very closely resemble the Ford Racing FR500s which do not by any means belong on a civic. I really like the rims and hope they will be available in black with a polished lip!

Ya they do look like the FR500's kinda.... but I think those are ugly as well. I dont like the spoke look... but hey thats just my opinion, your entitled to your own opinion. I hope they have more than one option for wheels.
WOW 10 days. THATS TOO LONG!!! :bang:

Here are the wheels that belong on the new cobra. Just as shown in the chop.
Don't get me wrong, the FR500 wheels are nice, they just seem a little spokey for the new bodystyle.

One more time: Shelby Mustang by SVT.
One more time: Shelby Mustang by SVT.
Not!!! Long live the SVT Cobra!!
We have our modern day Shelby Mustang, it is called 'Saleen'. IMO Saleen is a retelling of the Shelby story.
I know many people who would be very excited if Shelby made a new Mustang. I would like to see it as well. However if they are not one in the same, I don't want the Shelby to overshadow the SVT Cobra as Ford's highest performance factory Mustang. SVT has built an image of being the top dog modern Mustang.
Either make the Shelby
1) a Tuner car (like a Roush) or an indendant manufacturer (like a Saleen).
2) If it is produced in house by Ford, slot it in the niche market (like a Mach 1) under the SVT Cobra or
3) make it a very limited, very stripped race car (sitting in for the Cobra R). Imagine a Shelby GT 500 R with no back seat, no radio, only 500 produced, and 500 rated horsepower. Sick it on the Z-06 Corvette just like the 2000 Cobra R.
