so the new cobra will be 5.4 and internally forged, but the saleen is just a gt with a blower on it. I don't see how they're going to keep the price around 40k for the new cobra?

No, the question you should be asking is why is Saleen asking so much for their car. For the price they are asking, I can think of a couple cars off hand that I would rather have for that price, a C6 Corvette or a M3.

exactly! wtf.. I would never pay over 50 for that saleen, when i could get the cobra for around 40... I guess if you got the money to throw around it doesn't really make a difference.

heck, I have dealers telling me left and right that they will sell me a new c6 without z51 package for under 43K. I'm thinking this may be the way to go...
Especially seeing that some of the dealers around Dallas are selling the GT's for darn near 30K...

I say go for it, the C6 is one heck of an automobile. The Z51 package is only about $1,500, or are they marking the package up a lot? Anyways, good luck with whatever you decide.

The Saleen S281 SC is a bit more then just the ROOTS blower as far as engine mods. The powerflash chip and programing is added along with high flow fuel injectors, a complete air cooling and filter charger for the supercharger. The Internal components of the engine are stock, but lots of minor mods are made to allow for the superharger, increase in combustion, and power output. To many to list here, but you can call Saleen to get the list, to optimize your own car. The last numbers I have seen on the 2005 S281 SC indicate about 394 HP at the rear wheels and 390 lbft of tor. Your really talking about a 450 hp and 450 tor. at the fly wheel. The car will out run a Vette on the road course and the skid pad numbers are better. Straight line acceleration is about equal to a Vette, but hey you get 2 more seats too.

There are also suspension, body and interior upgrades.
With that said, I still wouldn't buy the Saleen.

Agreed, the Saleen has lots of mods, not just a GT with a blower.
And I would not buy one either, GT500 for me!!!

Are the HID lights included on the Saleen pack? That's 1k right there.

Here is an example of an aftermarket one: http://www.xesighting.com/products_detail....1&cat=1&prod=85
The Saleens you can pay $1K extra to have them installed.

The Saleen is a rip-off, the Shelbys won't be for sale for a while--and won't be selling anywhere near MSRP for an even longer while. Get the C6 man, 6.0 liter V8? That's convincing.

One can make an arguement either way for the price on a Saleen. A nicely equiped S281 SC can be had from 49 to 53K, depending on all the options you want. However, it is by far the best performing Mustang on the market currently. I will reserve my judgement comparing it to a GT500, only because the GT 500 is not in production yet, and from what I am hearing from the dealers, one is going to pay a pretty penny to get one. Most dealers are only expecting to get 1 to 3 units, and production being so high for the mustang GT currently, with no decline in sight. This will most likely result in a decrease in number of GT 500s being produced. The number orignally 7000 units, will be more likely 5000 units. Oh and that 40 to 45K price will be more like 65 to 70 with the demand anticipated. But if you get one, that will be one rocket ship.

Less that half the price of a Ford GT, yet they will build only a few thousand more. Not a good ratio here for enthusiasts.
It's going to be insane getting one. I wouldn't doubt it yet that they would sell near 60k or more.
