Wow, if this is the case, then Ford may have pulled a bait & switch on us.

I would bet the special edition (be it mach1, BOSS, whatever) will come out after the cobra. From hints given to us directly from HTT and other people up there in the Mustang world, there will be a special edition with cosmetic enhancements, different wheels, etc.

I would suspect the S/E will hit the lots as an '07 model right as the new Mustang-fighters from the General hit the streets.

Cool info, I hope we see a vert with an automatic, or SMG. That would be awesome. Choice of IRS or solid also would be great. Looking forward to Detroit auto show in January 06!

Wow! Great info! I hope this all turns out to be true.

Every part of it sounds very plausible. (And almost matches my previous guesses and hopes exactly. ) I also think that the SE in '06 and Cobra in '07 are what we will see happen.

Almost all sources say that the Cobra will be an '07 model. It will have a large number of components that will be specific to the Cobra. Such as, completely different bodywork, the IRS option, new brake system, and a new intercooled blower, among other things. So, i can see why it could take until mid to late '06 to have the Cobra ready to go.

Now, a new Mach (or other SE) wouldn't require anywhere near the same development. It would mainly consist of the engine and transmission, and then a few add ons to the current suspension. It would also have a few exterior and interior differences, but not anywhere near the changes on the next Cobra. So, a Mach/SE could easily be ready by '06.

And, don't worry, releasing a SE in '06 won't cannibalize the '07 Cobra market. These two models would be different enough in power, style, and price that they would both be big sellers. A 370hp SE for $32,000 to $35,000 would appeal to a different market segment than a 460hp Cobra that costs $39,000 to $43,000. There is room for both to sell just fine. We will see in time, but this is some nice food for thought. Thanks Steve.

Steve, :worship: thanks for the info, please stay on top of your source so we can get the updates as they happen! A cobra resembling a 67 shellby with a ducktail for everything else, there's mastercard.

Maybe we should start some new stickies; mach 1, boss, bullitt, cobra so it's easy to get the latest from the rumor mills organized....

I DO hope that they don't use the same puny shaker scoop on this new car, though - the hood is too big. Something like the scoops on the '71 Mach 1's would rule, though! The concept scoops would be great, too...though I think somehow they will be reserved for the Cobra (since they're so similar to the 1967 Shelby that they claim to want to emulate).

I hope the concept hood comes out on an SE as opposed to the Cobra.... only because I want to see it sooner. The concept hood more closely resembles the '68 Shelby than it does a '67. Either way, I was plannin' on waiting for the '06 M/Y to come out, but heck.... I may just save a few more pennies and pick up the next SE. I'd love to have a 5.4 as opposed to the 4.6.... simply because there's no replacement for displacement. I'd be curious to know what the weight of the engine will be compaired to the 4.6. I was plannin' on adding a screw type blower to the GT anyways... so I guess my next pipe dream is one for the 5.4....

anyhoo.... here's the hoods for compairison.

I just love hearing that Ford isn't going to back down to Chevy if or when the F-bodies try and make a comeback. The Mach I and Cobra sound exciting, but any news on how much the Mach I was going to cost?

Also - prototype Mach 1's are also on the streets. These are supposedly running N/A'd 5.4's, tuned for 370hp with the 6 speed transmissions for now and debate still ongoing about which auto to use.

Hmmm... NA 5.4 tuned to 350HP, IRS rear, a few trim tweeks (ducktail, hood), some factory painted stripes and we have the new Shelby GT350. All from the parts bin.

If they built a Cobra with anything near the specs you mention, at the price you mention, I'd order one today. Yum.

Thumbs down

5.4 Supercharged, 3 valve heads (with HUGE valves), forged internals similar to the 4.6 (Crank, rods, etc), modestly rated (under rated actually) ~465 HP/495 lb ft Torque, using a twin screw S/C similar to that on the Ford GT but pullied differently.

The retro theme will continue with a serious nod to the '67 Shelby. The fenders may be flared more than the standard '05 but that is not for certain as of now. The ducktail will be factory installed.
SWEET!

The 5.4 S/C'd cars have been clocked in the very low 12's (12.10-12.25) in the quarter at nearly 120 mph and have been traction limited
:drive:

Also - prototype Mach 1's are also on the streets
B)

He also said that Ford is hoping to stymie the rumored F-body's comeback sales numbers with more powerful engines in the V6/GT Mustang in M/Y 2007 cars, perhaps as high as 20% increases in HP/Torque with 10-12% increases in fuel economy. If true, we could be seeing 320/325 HP GT's in 2007!
I'm glad to hear this because i might get a stang in two years plus, and the idea better gas mileage with more power is kick ****

This type of assembly is what makes the rumors (or 'inside info') seem so plausible, doesn't it? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that to get an SE aproved and built would be easier (and an easier sell to the bean counters at Ford) if it used primarily already in place componentry, right out of Ford's own parts bins.

Again, the source definitely works at SVT. He claims to have physically sat in and/or drove the models he describes and other than what he said he was NOT sure about, came across as being solid on the other issues.

Well, I've said it before - believe it when you see it but this news is sure juicy if it is even half true. I know I WANT to believe it!

I can believe a N/A 5.4 Mach/Boss/Shelby easily. I can easily believe the powerplant going into the Cobra being (as he insisted it was) a S/C'd 5.4.

I don't know - it all is very, very believable. We'll see comd the NAIAS in January of '06 for sure, if not before due to other "sister's husband's best friend" sources and reliable spies (like Amy).

It will definitely not have a motor that can even be compaired to the GT motor... the GT motor is all new as in the 5.4 block is not even the same block ford used in the F150's, and plus that motor with blower retails for $45k, much more then the entire new cobra will be
You're right there Danny. "John" tells me it is the motor that was being developed for the Lightning and since that project was shelved, all monies and efforts went into setting it up for use in the upcoming Cobra as well as a healthy N/A version for the S/E's.

According to him, the efforts were successful.

VERY successful!

While the motor shares displacement size and dimensions with the Ford GT, it is NOT the GT motor/block detuned; the mules are using a Twin Screw 'similar to what is in use on the Ford GT and pullied differently' as well.

Makes me wanna DANCE!

Wow good info But I really doubt seeing an automatic tranny(even if it shift hella fast) on a SVT Cobra. I do believe some kind of paddle shift behind the steering wheel. But hey like you said Steve Time will tell.

Great info, Steve!

Also - prototype Mach 1's are also on the streets. These are supposedly running N/A'd 5.4's, tuned for 370hp with the 6 speed transmissions for now and debate still ongoing about which auto to use. None of the proto Mach's are running the Shaker hood to keep them cloaked to spying eyes. This car is supposed to appear for the '06 M/Y with some final tweaking to be set in stone by Jan/Feb 2005
Wow, this makes me really happy...the only question that I have here is the 370 hp....doesn't that seem a little out of line with the last edition of the Mach I? Because I thought the hp difference between the last GT and Mach was only something like 10-15hp? Even with a 325hp GT, that's a pretty good jump.

Not that I'm complaining or doubting your source!

VERY cool that they are looking to release the Mach I in '05 for the '06MY....Gonna have to start really saving my pennies now!
No flames here but you are wrong my friend.

The difference between last Mach1 and GT were nearly 60HP.

99-04 GT --> 260HP
03-04 Mach1 --> underated by Ford at 305HP.

But we all know those cars were putting 315-320HP at the crank, demostraded by Dyno runs.

Also, 03-04 Mach1's are doing 13.3-13.8 at 105mph in the quater mile. Even MM&FF with only drag radials or slicks (don't remember very good) hit 12's in a stock 1.
