Jason,
I used Prismacolor, they are fantastic if you use the right paper... That's what the Industrial Design department at my college recommended too. Be prepared though, they aren't cheap.

Jason--what I started with was a brand called "Design 2" which is no
longer available. Quality was good and the price was a bit less then Prismacolor.
(Started with a 24 color set.)
As they dried out, I replaced them with Prismacolor markers as that was the
only alternative I could find at our local art supply stores.
