OK...
So its done !! However I had a slight problem...I wired it exactly like the schematic is layed out BUT...Only 1 light worked at a time...If the switch was up...the left one would work, if the switch was down, the right one would work !! :scratch: The only way I could get it to work right was to use only 1 side of the LAMPS connection on the relay switch. So it works great that way so I left it like that.

It must be something particular with the relay that you purchased, and probably by its design. I have tested both "Power to Lamp" terminals on my relay, and they work as they should. We need no change in the schematic that you provided.
It looks really great! It's nice to get stuff like this done.

P.S. For others reading these notes: A four terminal relay could also be substituted, wherein you would common together both fog lights at a single "Power to Lamps" terminal, just as Flight96 has done here.

 

You are probably right about the relay switch. That is what I was thinking as well.

I would follow the schematic as shown.Chances are its my relay...Could be faulty or a different relay. Im tempted to try a different relay just to see. Good luck with it !! Its not hard at all.

 

I just installed the Street Scene V6 to GT Conversion grille, which holds the stock GT Fog lights in the standard outboard position.

 

looks good...now empty your to do list to the complete list, so you can refill the to do list...lol

 

that relay has 2 switched posts when the relay is off power goes to one post when power is ont it goes to the other post the drawing is wrong both lights should only go to one of the posts. if you look at the side of the relay it will show you all of the numbers and connections. two wire are for the coil and the other three are for the power

Heres my idea, will it hold water?

I installed the GT front bumper. Im going to wire my fogs with a kit Ive had laying around for offroad lights that I bought for a Jeep and never used.

Im going to wire in a remote switch from Advance Auto.

Im going to try and program my homelink to turn the lights on and off.

I will wire the fogs to a switched source so i cant leave them on when I turn the car off. I want to operate them independant of the park/headlights.

I see two advantages, no wires through the firewall, I get to use the other two homelink buttons.

 

Two types of 5-post relays are out there. Mine has two common posts that apply power when the switching means is hot. Flight96's relay (and I suspect most others) are as you describe, wherein both fog lights would go to a single post.

 

Nothing wrong with that at all. Sounds like it would be fun!

A great informative post. It should not be that complicated. I bought my grill and wiring harness from WCP and took me less than 1 hour start to finish. I guess WCP is out of business as they had a lot of complaints later on. Too bad their kit made it simple and utilized all FOMOCO parts including the GT switch. I like the pony grill better than the GT grill as it is more retro and true to the 'Stangs of the 60's.

 

You can also do this using the factory wiring harness. Provided you can find a dealer that will program the smart junction box for you. I had a post with the part numbers and instructions, but it ws lost in the conversion. Basically all you need it the front wiring harness, micro relay, 15 amp fuse and Gt headlight switch. If your connector for the headlight switch has wires in positions 3 and 6 then this will work. Just replace the fron harness put the relay in and fuse. connect your fog lights and replace the switch. Now here comes the fun part go to the dealer and have them pull the smartjunction box from a similarly equipped car with fog lights and restore it to your car. Should be about an hours labor. I can dig up the part numbers if you want. The front harness is relatively cheap around $60. Kevin can get everything for you

Hello everyone,
I went round and round looking for data so I made up a guide so others wouldn't have to go through what I did. Thus I am spreading the information on old posts, forgive me, for people using the search feature or coming in through Google search. This is also relatively cheap.
I put a pony package grille in mine (got it at Carlisle Car Show for $45) came with no lights, so I got some off of eBay for $30 clear lenses. Came with a harness and no directions.
I bought a GT headlight switch (mine was a base model with nothing special) off of eBay for $30, went to Autozone and got a generic Bosch style 4/5 pin relay, and here is what I did...

First disconnect your battery.......................
On a Bosch style 4/5 pin relay, do this;
Pin 30 and 86 slice together and run wires to your +12 volt source (fuse box bolt) and put a fuse between the splice and the power source.
Pin 87 run a wire to the (+) side of your fog lights.
Pin 85 run a wire from here to inside your car. If you have a headlight switch with fog option, great, if not get one.
Pop out your headlight switch. Use something thin and flat (knife, screwdriver, what have you. Just don't mar up you dash).
Once out, you will see two harnesses. One black and one gray. Disconnect them both if you are replacing the non-fog headlight switch with one that has fog light capability, otherwise just the gray harness.
On the gray harness, look for the orange wire with light green trace. (only one on the harness, its in a corner) Cut it 3-5 inches back.
On the car side of the cut wire, tape it up and secure it out of the way.
On the harness/switch side, connect the wire you ran into the car to the orange wire with light green trace. Solder/crimp connect and insulate.
Ground the (-) side of your fog lights to the frame/body.

You should test it all before popping the switch into the dash. You should have lights when you pull out on the switch with parking lights on.
This is called a ground trigger relay setup. Your switch, when on fog, grounds the circuit and activates the lights.
I also have a quick relay diagram if anyone needs it.
