V6 Exhaust
[b]I just picked up my 2006 V6 with the pony pkg. All in all I have to say that I am very impressed with this car. Although its not a GT, I still love her to death. Ive noticed that the exhaust tune is very predominant but I was wanting to get a more deep growl to it. I checked out Magnaflow, Borla, and Flowmaster for some of their products for the '06 V6s. Anyone have any input as to what sounds best??
Doing exhaust for our 6's is difficult. This 6 though slightly larger then the one it replaces still can never sound like an 8. Given that you can get relativly close to the rumble I think you have in mind. I have never heard the FRPP/Borla so I can't comment on that one, though I know plenty of people like it. I went with Magnaflow, the sound is very melow.(a melow muffler will gve you a rumble where as a "loud" muffler will give you a wider tone range) The magnaflow is a bit louder then stock and about the same rumble/tone range just more pronounced. Sounds great when you step on it, goes well with the engine rev-up and neither sound over powers the other. Also if going with a single muffler the magnaflow has almost no interior noise and drone, meaning that when your driving under normal conditions there is little to no HUMM... in side the car. The Magnaflow has a good range of sound and will never get high pitched enough to sound "rice". Don't know about your background with cars but the worst thing you can do to a Mustang is make it sound like a weed wacker. Some V6'ers use the MRT Aerotrubine I would NOT recommend this for our cars(I posted a review but not sure if it got deleted). You want to avoid any can type mufflers, these types often lead to no sound compression that a packed muffler has and often leads to the sound coming up through the floor rather then out the back, the easiest way to tell the difference is one looks like a soup can with an exhaust tip on it and the other looks like the muffler you have. With my Magnaflow I have also seen a gas mileage increase from 13.2 to 14.6 and has been going up as the muffler gets older, the FRPP/Borla should give you similar results. In it's defense the MRT aeroturbine took me from 13.2 to 14.2 after just one day with it on. The cheapest way to go is to get a GT take off and for the cost sound very good on our 6's. I have clips but can't upload them here at work. You can go to Magnaflow.com and find a sound clip for The V6 with their muffler on it. Hope this helps and let me know what you go with.
OH and congrats on the car the Pony Package is beautiful, though I am a bit bias

I have the FRPP/Borla, it's great. It's a little big for my taste though (visually, when viewed from the passenger side). I'd look into the MRT new exhaust, it sounds really good too and is not quite as large as the Borla one. You really can't lose with any of the exhaust options, just know that the Borla one has a 4" tip.
I've got the MRT single axle back... It's loud so it is definitly not for everyone... however... it really out performed my Magnaflow single axle back... For a complete writeup including pictures, dyno sheet and videos you can go here: http://www.tammyandjohn.com/Mustang/Scream...ang.htm#muffler
I vote for true duals using GT take-off mufflers and the LH GT mid-pipe. Get the pipe from Ford and the mufflers off E-Pay.
Reasonable price, sound great, and drive other Mustang people into a tizzy. GT drivers see the twin factory mufflers and wonder what's under the hood, stock V6 drivers think it's a special edition GT.

Was VERY COMMON in Detroit area last summer... all the dealers were dressing their V6 up as GT... put everything on but the GT badges... LOL

GT mufflers and the L/s pipe along with a custom built H pipe was my choice when I was thinking of changing it over...

The stock muffler sounds too "normal" to me at idle so I've ordered the single axle back from JBA after I listened to some clips on this site...
I hope I I have made the right choice???
Also I love the bright look and the chrom end pipe from the JBA Axle Back

Vistablue Mustang (Tom's) analysis is right on. Here is my install, using Magnaflows:

I have the single JBA exhaust and love it! It definitely sounds better than stock and when you jump on it, it sounds pretty mean... The only regret is that I didn't go the dual route right away, but I have been impressed with the sound... You made a good choice...

Here's a couple pics of my car... I haven't taken any recent pictures (except these) cause I am waiting for a new grill to come in... Once it comes in and I install it, I'll be taking more... And the stripes I had installed were 8" wide with a 3" gap.

My JBA single axle back is on!! you're right great sound, and more rpms = more agressive and mean!
It's a very good improvement for the V6
