I have been looking into getting a 05' Stang V6 for some time now. I've also been looking into the performance mods available for the car. I feel that it is safe to conclude that it will take some time for the aftermarket industry to begin producing these parts. I was wondering, is the 4.0L V6 in the '05 the same one offerred in the Explorer or the Ranger? And if it is, would any of the parts available for them work on the Mustang? Thanks.

Yes, it is the same motor. There are performance upgrades specific for those vehicles? Didn't realize there would be a large enough demand for performance upgrades on those two vehicles.

yes and no, some of the mods for the 4.0 Explorer and Ranger model are for the same block motor but with a DOHC heads. So throttle bodies and underdrive pulleys are a little different.

Fear not though, there will be a lot of performance parts for the 4.0 in the mustang available in the near future.

All right. Thanks. I saw that Superchips already has a chip out for the car, even the V6. They said 20hp and 20lb-ft of torque. Who knows but its a start.

There is no such thing as DOHC heads on a Ford 4.0 V6.

The Explorer, Ranger and 05 Mustang 4.0s are all similar SOHC, 2V engines.

ever heard of a Ford Duratec engine ??? the Mondeo, the 2001 Taurus, Mazda B4000, 04 Escape, the 2.5 liter Contour, the lincoln LS V6..

Should I name any more FORD products that have a DOHC V6 ????

Opps my bad the only one out of the group that is actually a 4.0 liter and DOHC is the Duratec 4.0 DOHC V6 in the Mazda B4000.

My bad sorry, but it is Ford Engine and it is a V6 4.0 DOHC motor

Yeah, I have one in my Truck. It hauls rear end!

If the V6 5 speed Mustang goes as fast, then I'll be ordering it.......

Sorry, but you're wrong. The 4.0L V6 in the B4000 is SOHC:

It's also not part of the Duratec family of V6s.

I hear the engine is very adaptable to upgrades and that the V6 model might be capable of keeping up with the GT after a few mods. It can also handle just like the GT model if a sway bar is added...
