skipping gears and RPM's
#1
I have a V6 manual transmission. I just got my car and have 100 miles on it. Is it bad to skip 4th gear going from 3rd straight to 5th? I don't want to mess up this car, I love it.
Also, what is the average RPM's I should be shifting at? I'm kinda taking it easy on my car for the first 1000 miles. For normal daily driving I've been shifting around 2000-3000 rpm's. I've heard some people on here I think say they shift around 1.5. In the higher gears that seems reasonable, but for 1st gear feels like I have to go to at least 2,000 or else I will stall. I'm 21 and only driven my dad's gmc sonoma manual before so I just want to get as many driving tips as I can. THANKS

If you are at a speed&rpm to get to 5th without hitting 4th then it's no problem, although a bit odd.
For gas saving it's ideal to shift around 2k, there is no need to take it easy btw, It's old way when they used a cross hatch pattern on the cylinder walls to seat the rings.
Don't shift too low because you will be loading the car more, and the computer will make your car run rich. People I know who shift extrememly low forever (long term), are the ones who get gas in their oil (goes past the rings, and this mixture if driven long enough will make you say goodbye to your bearings), and before you know it their cats & O2 sensors go out.
Drive it smoothly, don't ride the clutch, and do your car a favor and get on it once in a while
Those are my tips, enjoy the car

Hey manny thanks for taking the time to answer. Good tips. The reason I say I would skip 4th occassionaly is if maybe going down a little hill. That's good that I don't have to take it so easy. I have stepped on it a few times now just to show my friends what this car's workin with. And trust me, they are all impressed.
