Removing tape stripe...adding GT wheels
#1
Well, I think I'm finally ready to bite the bullet and remove the tape stripe from my V6 Mustang. It's a black beauty with the pearl gold tape stripe. I think it looks good now, but I'm worried I'll get sick of looking at it years down the road.
Also, I am hopefully going to be replacing the V6 Premium wheels/tires with GT Premium wheels/tires. I think it's a much cleaner look.
My question to fellow Mustang owners:
picturing the GT wheels on a V6...would you remove the tape stripe or not?
Thanks!

Hi Jay,
Both the V8 and the V6 use the same wheel lug pattern, offset, etc., and therefore are interchangeable. The stock V6 wheel is 27.0" in diameter, and the stock GT wheel is 27.2". Circumference is just Pie * Diameter (i.e. a linear relationship), so the variation is less than 1% (not really worth worrying about).
I am planning upon buying the following from my local Les Schwab dealer:
17"x8" Chrome-plated Topline Bullet wheels
20 wheel locks & Chrome valve stems
255/50ZR17 Tires
Eibach Pro-Kit springs (drops the car about 1.4")
Eibach Anti-sway bars (remember; the stock V6 doesn't even have a rear anti-sway; how embarrassing is that?)
Front-end Alignment
Total quote for the above is $2,437, including all labor & tax.
The rational for the above choice is economics and looks:
- 50% rubber gives a nice rim to rubber ratio.
- A 10" wide tire on an 8" wide rim gives you a 1" bumper for hitting the curb. You don't want to buy new rims for a minor driving error.
- The tire is only a $100 apiece! Aspect ratios below 50% do get increasingly more expensive.
- These cars have huge wheel wells, and 255 isn't a problem at all.
The tape stripe screams out "I am a V6"! I recommend that you gently heat the decals with a hair dryer to help in their removal. Wad them up very tightly and through them away in your neighbor's trash, and let's not discuss this any more, OK?
Yes, I'll miss my two pistons, but I have a teenager who needs to drive my car on occasion, and the insurance is killer for the V8s. We will all just have to make the best of it.
See you later; Brian.

This is a picture of Donna's car. She had the graphic person replace the black stripe with the charcoal color stripe she had done on the car. She bought the GT premium wheels also. It looks amazing!
On my V6, I didn't have the lower tape stripe, but added one when I got my car done with vinyl. I added silver Bullit wheels from the Ford Racing catalog.

I always liked the GT upgrade rims and they are tons easier to clean than the V6 wheels. I also like the look better with the 17" wheels.
I do wish we could change the centercap though. I have had thoughts of removing the bottom stripe just because of the clean look it gives the car.

Removing the stripe sooner will be easier. Mine just peeled off, but it probably wouldn't have had it been on the car for a few years. Oh, and the GT wheels work just fine on the V6.
