Guys,

Are their any "landmines" in removing the 4.0L 05 valve covers (that's what we called them in my day)? I've been told by the GT'ers that the gasket is rubber and can be re-used. Same for the 4.0L? I don't want to pull them until I'm sure I don't need to replace the gaskets..

Thanx in advance

Frank

I'm not sure, but if you are unsure it couldn't hurt to just replace them, and I doubt the cost would be that bad

Yep...I'm sure they aren't expensive... I'd just like to get a new set before I pull them off it I can't re-use them (god knows they could be on backorder or something). Maybe there's a ranger 4.0 forum??

I've been noticing the V8 guys are having their valve covers powder coated and I wanted to paint mine but I'm not sure if the gaskets are re-usable. I called the dealer today and they run 20 bucks per gasket but they don't have them in stock... I'd really hate to tear into it and have my car sit for 3-4 days waiting for the gaskets to come in. I'm hoping it will turn out as good as what I did to the alternator cover..

BIG THUMBS UP TO Kevin at clevenger ford... I called him and asked him about our valve cover gaskets and he said they are the rubber re-usable. I'll be tearing into this tonight and I'll be sure to post pics of the valve covers after they are installed.

Well,

I didn't get them powdercoated... I'm painting them myself with duplicolor metallic paint (rated to 500 degrees intermittently).

Here's some pics in progress...

Kevin,

I got another favor to ask... *LOL*..Being a stupid $*%& I forgot to mark down the order of the plug wires on the drivers side when I removed the ignition coil. The plug wires are still connected to the ignition coil... Can you let me know the order for the driver's side from the front of the order to the back?
Or maybe a fellow V6'er can see what numbers are on their plug wires going from front to back?

Thanx all

Frank

Ok..I got them back on... I guess they turned out OK...I'm not entirely happy with them but it does add something to our otherwise boring V6 engine bay.

Thanx again to kcstang for all his help...YOU DA MAN!!!

Looks great! It's good to see that we have timing chains instead of belts. I wonder how hard it would be to take that intake manifold off and paint it....

I'm not sure... Supposedly Midwest Auto Gear is making an intake cover for us V6'ers. Here's a link...
