Power for the V6
#1
I just got a red 2006 V6 with the pony package.
It has dark charcoal leather, IUP, and manual transmission .
1. Who makes the best programmer and where should I buy it?
What kind of gains can it provide?
Where is Bama Chips?
What about the programmer and CAI combo kit.
One of my main concerns is removing the top speed limiter.
2. Does the V6 aftermarket exhaust sound good or does it sound like a chainsaw.
I was looking at the single outlet mac exhaust.
Is it worth buying or should only duals be considered?
Thanks

C&L and sct2 seems to be the best combo out there.
depends on which exhaust you get.
MRT seems to sound the best to me, in both single and dual form... see h60's post

MAC exhaust looks like a fart can and sounds just about as bad IMO. The only exhaust Ive heard that I really like would go:
Flows, MRT, and the Borla (FRPP) which is actually a quieter tone than the others. There's no order to that listing btw.

I think I was wrong to go with dual Magnaflows as my first mod. Intake and a tune would've been much better.. I say that now and I don't even have them yet!
But yeah, as for your exhaust question. Magnaflows are pretty nice. Deep and sound absolutely amazing at 3-4RPMs. But when it gets up there... maybe 5000-6000 RPMs.. it begins to sound like a motorcycle (not what I had in mind). Still, an excellent buy for $360.00

Hey Smoke, good too see another Alabama mustang, cool color too!! Doug who owns bamachips lives in Jasper I believe. I'm planning on getting a tuner and CAI from them soon too. I'd just PM him and see if y'all can meet up sometime if you don't want to have to wait for the mail. As far as exhausts go, you could try just going with dual GT takeoffs first. They are really cheap and then you have duals, and a good sounding system and if you don't like it, you can just upgrade the mufflers. I can vouch for the sound though, it is nice and deep without being too loud and obnoxious.

First, congratulations on your pony. Sorry it's the wrong color though...I agree with all the recommendations...

Asa, you obviously misread his post, he said clearly that he got it in the right color: Red
And Fazm's recommendations were spot-on.

What is the top speed of a V6 without the limiter?
I traded a 2004 Sonic Blue Gt in on the 06 V6.
They gave a great price on trade in and I used "X-PLAN".
I still have the stock mufflers from the 04 GT.
I had flowmaster mufflers welded on the GT, not the cat back system.
How would 1 stock 2004 GT muffler sound on the 06 V6.
Anybody ever heard the sound?
I bought the 04 GT new and it had 30,000 miles on it when traded last week.
As an EX-GT driver I say the new V6 is a strong machine. I can definately feel the upgrades in the entire build of the car.
Do any of you have any problems when quick shifting the 5 speed manual?
My 04 had the same transmission and it seemed to clip into place a lot smoother.

Congrats man.
The sound from the 05 GT muffler is a good cheap upgrade too. I wonder how your 04 GT takeoff would sound though
I feel the shifting has gotten better over time, compared to the first hundered miles to now it's much better. It rarely gets stuck on power/speed shifts.
I remember 2nd and 5th were stubborn, but now they are great.
Without the limiter I finally had the space to top out 4th gear which ends up being roughly just over 140 mph. I know Fazm has gone at that speed too a while back.
I would assume the top speed which would be limited by drag and power would be not much more than that, especially after 5th gear with less Tq reduction.
Still a blast though.

I think this info should be made a 'sticky' on this forum since a lot of us have the same question. Like, 'how to add 20-30rwhp for under $1000' could be title, or just 'Best performance option for v6'.
I bought my bare bones stick shift '06 last week. Got a nice deal on it too. Now I need to make some payments, save up some cash, and get started on the upgrades.
