While being a tad heavier....

210hp/245 ftlbs VS the older 193hp/225ftlbs
and not knowing whether its underated or not.

The old V6s were in the 15.4-16 second range depending on driver and setup (manual/auto)

NOW with the 5speed auto and manuals....
I predict 14.7 - 15.2 1/4 mile times

And those will be a great improvment.
I think the new 6 is going to surprise people....also mod-ablilty.
The 4.0 will do nicely

a big torquey motor,

just remember a few years ago the 4.6's and 5.0's had only 215Hp

with a better suspension, despite the torque disadvantage, the '05 V6 will probably stay nose-to-nose with those old GT's

And so it should....good for the V6 guys! They're gonna love this engine. Aftermarket exhaust on this is going to sound sweet with its large cube V6. Plus, next to a V8, there's nothing better than a torquey V6.

I own a block stock '94 GT Vert auto, as much as I hate to admit it, I am positive an '05 V-6 w/ a 5-speed would give me a run for my money. My car only has 215 hp. I am happy that people can buy a V-6 with that kind of pull. I bet with a little modding that the GT owners normally do the new V-6's will hit the 260 hp mark of the 99-04 GTs. With some suspension mods, I think we are going to see V-6s running around that are real performers.

This motor will defintely take to mods and tuning if I had my guess. I'm going to acctually get a salesman buddy of mine to score me a test drive in a 5-speed version when they have one on the lot that he can do it in. We are looking at reasons to get rid of the g/f's 01 ato v6 stang and a GT is a lil bit out of her price range at the moment. '05 v6 5spd withs some nice suspension components would be an awesome cruise and spirited country road driving car.

The 4.0 in my Ranger has a GREAT sound to it. It's very deep and rich at any RPM, and people actually occasionally ask me if I have a V8 in it. I'm sure the new Mustang application can be made to sound great!

its very good to hear that the V6 will sound and run great. if i get a mustang, it will most likely be a V6,
unless people start noticing that being an Educator is an important job that the world cant live without, and they start paying us the big bucks. but until that day, no GT

You need to move to my state. School teachers make big bucks and have great benefits.

I think it's around 7.5 to 60 in the 193 hp 3.8L.

That's because you have to shift to 3rd at around 55.

That's awesome. Just wait and see what MM&FF gets. A sub-7 second V6 should be able to keep up with the highly-touted 240hp Accord V6.

But, don't say that to Hondaboy. VTEC is God in his book, and that would pass as blasphemy. :R:

a sub 7 second V-6 would be amazing!

the accord V-6 is priced more closely to the GT
$24000-27000
so the mustang V6, plus the mods you can buy with the money you save from not buying the crapccord, you can easily top it.

Yeah, there's no doubt the Honda V6 is a high-hp engine, but with the low torque numbers, I felt no excitement whatsoever when I mashed the gas on the 2003 coupe I tested last year. :notnice:

2nd gear in the SN95 V6's redline at 60mph.

Redline? Are you sure about that? I'll take your word for it, since you own one, but the one I drive hits redline at 55. 60 is a few hundred RPM into the red, and I'm not trying to blow up somebody else's engine.

All I know is that the 4.0L V6 in my 03 Explorer (210HP/245TQ) has no problem pulling into highway traffic, passing blue haired ladies dallying in the fast lane, or blowing the doors off stock Civics! And it probably weighs a good ton more than the new Mustang! So, I'm betting the new Mustang will run circles around it and get 29 MPG Highway to boot!

a big torquey motor,

just remember a few years ago the 4.6's and 5.0's had only 215Hp

with a better suspension, despite the torque disadvantage, the '05 V6 will probably stay nose-to-nose with those old GT's
And still no Traction-Lok option from the factory !!

More HP and same torque as the '82 GT (157HP @ 4200 / 240 ft/lb @ 2400), which I believe came std. with a 7.5" T-Lok differential. I know the '83-84 GT's came stock with T-Lok ... 175 HP @ 4200 / 245 ft/lb @ 2400.

My '98 was not as bad with the factory 225/55-16 BFG Comp T/A's, the 2.73:1 Gears, and 150 HP @ 4000 / 215 ft/lb @ 2750. You had to get on it pretty good to get the one-wheel-peel going. It was still pretty embarasing, so T-Lok (plus 3.08:1 gears and quad-shocks) went in after about a year.

However my '04 had the "one wheel peel" pretty bad ... the Goodyear Eagle LS's were no help, nor was the lower 3.27:1 Gears combined with the increased performance (193 HP @ 5500 / 225 ft/lb @ 2800). I added T-Lok, Quad Shocks, and swapped tires out for BFG G-Force KDWS before I hit 100 miles !!

So the '05 is taking up even further in the performance catagory, yet Ford still sees no need to offer Traction-Lok. Heck, even GM offered it on their V6 Camaro / Firebirds up until they were eliminated ... you could even get Dual Exhaust (pretty chrome tips coming from the same crossflow single muffler anyway).

Doug
