I recently bought a K&N Air Filter for the black stallion and came across an oil filter. I was just curious what a K&N oil filter does verses a stock oil filter? Are there any benifits to having one?

Theoretically has a better filtering design, like it has a spiriling (how the heck do you spell that word) effect so it filters the oil better. Is it worth it? in my ASE certified opinion, no. lol

Be careful...some on the GT side tried the K&N oil filter and it caused some engine noise. It appears the drop across the filter is too great. There are graphs on the internet that show this. Once the K&N oil filter was removed, the engine noise stopped.

I've had the K&N on my V6 for about 3K mi now. No unusual noise noted on mine at least. I really like the 1" nut welded to the end of the filter. Makes removal a snap.

I've also had the K&N filter since the first oil change and have had no problems with temp, noise, etc

See sig for more on the filter

Ford Racing offers a high performance oil filter as part of their performance packages for the GT. I have wondered whether it was included because it filters better, because it flows better (and thus reduces oil pressure at high rpms), or because it flows better and causes less parasitic drag on the engine (thus increasing hp).
