Wondering if I can just remove my muffler altogether for now just to get that straight pipe sound. Will this affect the backpressure in the cat?

Too late. Got tired of waiting for an answer so I did it anyway. I took it around the block for about 5 mins. and then let it idle for a while just to make sure I didn't mess anything up with the exhaust. Sounds absolutely intimidating now. It'll do until I can afford the real thing.

I fired my car up when I was changing the mufflers out. We had already run dual pipe, and the loss of backpressure just made it sound terrible. I have a rough sound clip of it around if anyone is really interested. Bad recording equipment on top of an awful sound though, so its a real pain on the ears.
