i would keep the cats. sounds like your trying not to spend much to go dual, but its not gonna be too cheap no matter how you go. you can get x pipes every where, h pipes are hard to come by. i really dont think you will notice any performance differences between the x or h. people like both.
i put some cheap shorties, jba stailess h pipe with over axles( not available anymore), 2 gt takeoff mufflers, and 2 oem clamps cost around $750. jba also sells the complete stainless h pipe system with their mufflers for around $750. nice setup except for the hangers.
the oem hangers are still the best and cost around $110 for 2
youve got the mufflers you want, could just get a x pipe and driv side mid/overaxle pipe
the cheapest thing would be to find a muffler guy to make something up, or bring him a h pipe off a gt to work with.

I have JBA shorties JetHot Sterling coated running thru stock cats to an H-pipe and Magnaflows stailess mufflers with 4" SS tips added. Whole system is welded post the headers and sounds really good when you get on it and quiet when cruising, no drone at all. Although after 6 years I am wanting grunt and the ATAK from Borla sound really good on the v8, hoping to hear it on a 6 before jumping in.
