MUSTANG V6 VS. NEW ECLIPSE GT AWD
#21
Doesn't the 210hp auto V6 Mustang do 0-60 in 6.9? And, the Eclipse GT's price is more in line with a Mustang GT deluxe. If Edmunds didn't have a typo, the V6 Mustang and Eclipese GT match up pretty well.
There also reports of the new eclipse having as high as a 10.5:1 compression ratio, which will limit boost to bout 4-5psi, if the pistons can even hold up to that (mitsu's have horrible piston/ring problems)

Bottom Line: For the money the Eclipse costs, it's worthless.
Buy a V6 Mustang. With the money saved up from not buying the Eclipse GT, add some mods, and make it go faster than the Eclipse GT

There still seems to be some confusion here about the Eclipse. The new model is not AWD, it's FWD as another poster mentioned. It also is not turbocharged, it's a normally aspirated 3.8 litre V6.
I too have scanned the Road and Track test with the 5.8 0-60 time, which seems about right for the power and weight. That would put it somewhere between the V6 Mustang and the GT, and it's priced between the two cars as well.

Its actually priced the the same as the mustang gt, 1k lower in starting base price. 4,500 higher than a base v6 mustang.
The FWD i pointed out earlier, that confusion was taking care of. Nobody claimed it to be turbocharged though, so i dont know where that came from.
If you gave me half of what the difference cost (lets call it less than half, 2k) i could be running high 5's int he 60 if not mid 5's, which would make me faster than an eclipse.... not to mention.. you would have to drive that hideous thing (am i the only one that think it looks very odd?)

I thought your post:
"There also reports of the new eclipse having as high as a 10.5:1 compression ratio, which will limit boost to bout 4-5psi, if the pistons can even hold up to that (mitsu's have horrible piston/ring problems)"
implied that you believed the current Mistu was turbocharged. Perhaps you were referring to its modibility.
