MUSTANG V6 VS. NEW ECLIPSE GT AWD
#2
new? i dont think they have made a gsx since 99.
I raced one at firebird raceway my first time out. Really bad track conditions, and my worst track time ever. He ran a 16.02 to my 16.18. Since then i have run 15.26 at the track, and 14.86 on my gtech. The eclipse had an advantage at the track since his 60 ft time clipped mine by half a second (2.1 to 2.6)

Actually I think the mustang would hold up pretty well, correct me if I'm wrong...but I belive that the new eclipse gt had 0-60 times of 5.8 sec. and quarter-mile times of 14.4 sec.
there is still no conparison between the V6 mustang priced at $20k and the eclipse GT priced at something like $28k.

1/4 mile: 14.4 @ 101mph!

But the company hasn't come back to turbos or AWD. Instead, there's an even bigger V6 under the hood of GT models.

With medium throws and easy clutch work, our six-speed Eclipse GT pulled a 6.8-second 0-60 and a 14.9 quarter-mile. Check out our recent sport coupe comparison test and you'll see the Eclipse is faster than the Mazda RX-8, but no match for the Nissan 350Z or Ford Mustang GT.

Since it runs a 14.9 in the manual version, and the v6 runs a 15.3 in the automatic version, i think you have a pretty close competition. In a manual to manual race, it would come down to driver.
In the article they talk about the whimpy 235 tires. Try a pair of our 215s on for size lol. With 235 tires and a good limited slip diff, i promise you i could run high 14's any day.
Nevermind with a good posi and some 255s.

Ok, Road and track said that it ran 5.8 to 60. Wonder why such the big difference? whole second faster to sixty and only half a second quicker in the quarter? seems odd as the mustang gt is about 1.8 seconds quicker to sixty, and bout the same in the quarter mile.

That v6 eclipse site some guy posted that the new mustang gt runs a 13.9 in the quarter mile lol. Talkin bout fudging the numbers to make your car look better.
EDIT: i just registered in attempts to correct him

It's not 5.8... it's slower!
Doesn't the 210hp auto V6 Mustang do 0-60 in 6.9? And, the Eclipse GT's price is more in line with a Mustang GT deluxe. If Edmunds didn't have a typo, the V6 Mustang and Eclipese GT match up pretty well.
