Muffler help please!! #*@!$#&
Hi everyone, I just bought a new Magnaflow axle-back muffler part #15889 for my new 2007 V6 ... and what was supposed to be a 1/2 hour install turned out to be closer to a 2 hour headache!! Here's the problem (see the attached picture please) ... the notch labeled "a" fits perfectly in the original Ford setup. In the Magnaflow setup, the notch "a" slips out as I ran the car (over 1" out after a 2 mile test spin!). I'm guessing this is because Ford's muffler has an additional hanger "c" attached to a rubber piece "d" while Magnaflow's does not have hanger "c", and this additional hanger allows Ford's muffler to stay put. Missing it seems to mean Magnaflow's start to slip off, no matter how tight I tighten bolt "b"! I'm guessing missing hanger "c" was also the reasonthe Magnaflow gave off a vibrating/loose sound when I ran the 2 mile test drive??
What am I doing wrong? Or, what do I need to do to fix this problem??? HELP!!!!
TIA

Long answer made short - It looks like you were sent the wrong part. The muffler should have the rear support bracket welded to it. Without it you're urinating upwind. I'd call them and ask them to ship you the correct replacement.

I had a Magnaflow on my past V6 and I can tell you that I remember two brackets being on the muffler. Like above give them a call and I think they will agree that they messed up.

Thanks for your replies ... I'm pretty sure it's the right one. My Magnaflow does have two brackets (labeled "e" and near "f" in my picture from my first post above). It's just that Ford's OEM muffler has three brackets - the third one holding up the piping at location "c" in my picture above.
Every picture of the Magnaflow axle-back V6 model I've found on the Internet shows the same muffler I have, with only two brackets:

Any other ideas?

Something similar happened to me.

Try purchasing a new u-bolt clamp.
It worked for me. No more rattling or muffler moving out of place.

i might be a GT but the notch should slide up and around the small peice, but if it does not you need to get a shop to either weld a clamp or buy an aftermarket clamp to use the third factory hanger
