Thumbs up

I was looking under my car today. I am wondering what this thing is that is hanging off my exhaust. Description:

It looks as though is is a hanger (about halfway down the length of the car). It has something that looks akin to a motormount attached to it, but it is just hanging there. It is only attached to the exhaust and nothing else. Should I be concerned?

Hello.

My car has it also. Told it was for controlling vibration. Looked weird when I noticed it at the dealership. So no need to worry.

On the V6 car there is also one on the muffler. If you really get under there you can see it. I replaced the muffler on my car with one from a GT. It is a direct bolt in and adds a nice tone to te exhaust. It also picked up about 1 mpg. Icould not put it back on with the GT muffler, but there seems to be no vibration problems that I can tell. I also have seen pictures of the underside of a V6 car that was built early in production and it did not have these. I guess that Ford found a problem and solved it.

How much was the GT muffler? I'm thinking of getting one of these myself. I assume the outlet pipe tip is in the same location, right? (It would stink to have to cut a new hole in the bumper.)

I find it hard to belive that some v6s have the 800/1600 rpm vibration and other do not. I had my car up in the air the other day after changing the oil and had my friend siting in the car. I had him put the car in gear, brake on, and load it down to 1600 or so, till he hit the vibration. From under the car you could feel the exaust system vibrating like crazy. However if you put you hand on the engine, NO vibration. My car has the dampers hanging on it and it still vibrates. For those who think they do not have the vibration, try starting your car after it is warmed up, put it drive (has to be an auto) and slowly load it down watching the rpms, as you approch 1600, increase the power real slow, you will hit a spot where the car starts to resonate and drone as you pass this rpm the vibration goes away. If you drive with a heavy foot all the time, you may never notice it.

Has to be an automatic? well that would explain why i've never got my car to do that lol. Just about everytime i get in my car i see if i can notice that vibration.

agree has to be a problem with the auto then, cuz i have a man and no vibration here, but the only time i did have a vibration was when i used the recomended 87 octane before that i have been using 89 octane. changed back to 89 octane after i noticed that preformance went down using 89 octane.

It is an anti resonance vibration weight. It is designed to minimize vibration at specified frequencies.

Go to ebay and advance search seller Casco tech-he has these for sale really reasonable. Pipe size and mounting points are the same.
