I sent an email to MAC yesterday asking for any information they could give regarding R&D on longtube headers for the 4.0 v6. This was their reply:

"They are in production and we expect them to be finished by mid-June.
Please let us know if you have any other inquiries.

Thank you."

Just keeping you guys updated.. they're comming!

They generally produce more power than shorties do... they also have a bit more rumble to them.

So why would anyone ever want to buy short tube headers? just cuz they are cheaper or something?

Short tube headers bolt in with no modifications. Just unbolt the stock exhaust & put the shorty headers on.
Long tube would require some exhaust mods. I think they eliminate the cats (I could be wrong about that). I know on the Mustang the cats are located immediately after the exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe connection so the cats would either have to be eliminated or relocated if you use long tube headers.

Bingo! But who needs cats unless you live in Cali anyway, right? Shorties also have a way of finding that "lost" power you might lose from changing exhaust around as well, but Im still placing my bets on the long tubes. Definitely not smog legal.

<---Arizona (most counties) need cats. When removed will set catalytic insufficiency bank 1 and bank 2 codes and then you will fail emissions here (check engine light determines if you pass or not).

Only way to make them smog legal is to weld in the cats... then whats the point?
on the v6, i dont see more than a 2-5hp gain with going to the longs instead of the shorties. And if you dont have a lot of air comin through the engine (forced induction) you might see a loss of power in the lower end do to less backpressure (no cats).

Yay for bumping all my old threads today!

"Can you give me any information about long tube headers or a prochamber for the car that may be in development? Are all prochambers designed the same? Or are they worked different internally... rather, Could I adapt a prochamber from a different series car to work with the v6?
Thanks!"

Yes we have been making long tubes and prochambers for several months. Part #TF2405 for the long tube and prochamber part#pcm2605 with or without cats. The prochambers are all designed the same. No adapting needed because we make one for the V6.

Longtubes can be found... http://www.lmperformance.com/5660/73.html
