Hello all...just curious if I am just being paranoid....but I have a 05V6 with 200miles on it so far...and whenever I drive somewhere, I keep smelling something is burning under the hood...smells like burnt rubber....maybe I am just being paranoid and the car is still brand new.....I opened the hood and checked it out and seems like everything is fine.....maybe its just me and being a proud mustang owner.....

The smell is perfectly normal. It has to do with the undercoating put on the car burning in, as well as the belts, gears, etc. starting to become used. Nothing to worry about. Mine went away at around 800 miles I think, but I could always smell it whenever I really got on it until around 1500.

I had this happen with my new 2001 F-150....It was rubber bands from
the building process that had not been removed.... they were hanging
loose from wiring harness and burning on the exhaust header...use a
flashlight to find them

Mine had a funky smell too. Would be really bad when running the heater. It's been gone for awhile now though. Imagine it was just oil/grease or whatever left over from the manufacturing process.

I had the same smell. Everytime I would park I would smell it strongly. A friend looked under mine and said "Its just the plastic bag you run over". My son changed my oil and I got under it and looked and there was melted plastic to the exhaust pipe. I don't remember running over a bag but there was melted plastic to my exhaust. After a while the smell went away.

Mine never really had a bad burning smell to it. Just the normal new car heated exhaust/brakes smell. At 1500 miles, it has gone away. However, I thought it was cool that with the car shut in the garage, I could smell the paint whenever I went in there.
On another note, our Lincoln has 73,000 miles on it and it still has a burning smell to it. But, I haven't noticed it anymore since it sits outside now.

That's funny, but my truck just had the same smell recently.
It has the same 4.0 liter engine as the V6 Mustang, but my truck is over three years old now.
Maybe it's a normal thing?

Just a small thought on any burning plastic , if it is stuck under a car and burning Remove It ASAP as with most plastics they are Toxic , I used do do some fire work and for people that say left a kettle on a burner and turned on the burner instead of plugging it in, well when that plastic shell went to flame and they inhaled it , Well they are no longer with the living.
