So I go to the station with the cheapest gas in town. Gonna fill up my car and all my red tanks. They're out of regular fuel. Ok, I'll just get the Plus, because its still cheaper than the regular Shell down the road. Today of all days, my gas tank decides to not want to fill up. I keep getting the rapid shutoff like in the TSB. Its the first time this has happened. Do you think it was just the pump? Or should I have my tank replaced anyway?

I have it happen sporadically to me even at stations where it usually doesnt. Turn the nozzle at a different angle or upside down, pull it out halfway and it seems to work with a little help.

For the record 6$ gas prices here in Georgia SUCK.

I live in GA too. Here it is 2.91 to 3.15 for Reg. Still less than they pay in Europe

I have the same problem if I use the newer fuel pumps. The older ones are fine.....took mine in for new tank yesterday and told them it doesn't happen all the time, does it really need replacing, and they said there was a TSB on it and it should be replaced. Not costing me anything. BTW, they ordered the same tank that's in the car now, so the wait starts over.......took 5 weeks for this tank to come in.

I only had one bad fill experience, a few weeks after I got her. We changed it, and it has filled with no problems in every station I've been to since. The shutoff used to come a bit early before too, and after replacing it, it shutoff when it was full like it was supposed to.
I'd just get it changed if theres any doubt.

If your tank does it again, have it Changed...Just be warned that they will dump all your gas when they change it out. My car has been fine but the one built just before it has the tank changed out.

Yep I ran her dry when I took her in, and when I got it back it was filled up to full.
oh yeah! they weren't supposed to fill it up, but was happy to get it filled.
An excellent way to test that the problem was fixed lol.

most good ford dealers have transfer setups to remove and reset the fuel. i also ran mine down to 15 miles till e on the message center. the right side was dry and the left side had about a half gal. when by friend took his in his wife forgot and filled the car. they gus pumped it out and replaced it. also make darn sure they order the tank cover its the black thing on the bottom. when my tank showed up it was just the tank and the 2 gaskets for the senders/pump. it was pretty funny we droped the tank and removed everything. my bud took it over to parts to swap it and said hey wheres this(tank cover) so in the parts area he was prying the dam thing off. not easy! cracked it in one place. so we ordered a new one took 3 weeks. we installed the tank with the old one i just havent had the time to replace it.

Well I took her in and they said my build date was after the fact that Ford and corrected the problem and that I already had the new parts. I find it very odd that it happened to me. But then again it was my first time using the pump and I haven't used it since. Maybe those two just didn't get along. Hopefully it was just a one time deal

I just had this happen this morning. The first station I was at actually spit gas back out, the cutoff was so powerful. I thought is was the station till I went to another and if I didn't hold the nozzle all the way in the tank as tight as possible it would cut off. Guess I'm gonna have to take her in for servicing.

I had the quick shut off problem. Had the tank replaced and no problems since. Took it in with 1/2 tank full and got it back with 1/2 tank so if folks aren't getting their fuel replaced it's time to find a dealer who'll take care of you. It's a dealer, not a Ford problem.
By the way, I have a problem with my car occasionally stalling (see "V6 Stalls after long highway trip" post). Though my dealer said they couldn't find any error codes (twice) they suddenly called me one day and said they'd been in touch with Ford who sent them a data logger to hook up to my car. When it happens again, I will just have to push a button on a cable lying on my console to record that last few minutes of system operations. It can store up to 20 events, so after I get a few, I'll take it back in and hopefully get a solution. I got a great dealer supporting me!

Well, it happened again at a 76 station... I'm probably just going to have to call my dealer and tell them to double check my VIN number or something, because it definitely does not seem that I have the most recent tank.

UPDATE: On top of everything else, now my fuel gauge is on the fritz and my check engine light is on. Taking her in tmrw morning to get it checked out. What luck! :bang:
